Campaign Element - 1 - The Falcate Idol

The Cult of the Harrower is ancient, and each of the eight eyes of its spider-idol is rumored to be a moonstone gem the size of a pigeon's egg.  Moreover, somewhere within the cult's sanctuary, a pool flows from the Egg of Creation.  Will your Thief seek to make a legendary score?  Will your Wizard pursue the shards of the Egg?  Will your Cleric join the cult?  Or will your Warrior fight his way through the web-covered passages to rescue them if they fail?  Any or all of these scenarios are possible!

The Campaign Elements series is designed to help judges create persistent campaign worlds, as well as deal with patron quests, divine requests, and the sudden need to “Quest For It”.  Whether it is because you are short on players one evening, or the wizard needs to locate a new spell, the Campaign Elements series has you covered.

Each of these areas is short enough to be played through by most groups in only a single session.  That doesn't mean that the value of the area is limited to a single session – each adventure includes notes on “squeezing it dry”…effectively getting the maximum re-use from your investment.

An adventure for 2-8 level 2 Dungeon Crawl Classics characters. This adventure is also suitable for 1-2 level 3 characters, or a solo level 4 thief who relies primarily upon stealth and caution.

Another question/comment. In area 1, in the "narrow passages", there are 5 dead thieves. It is not really clear why their bodies are there : non ennemies nearby, no explanation. Furthemore, the guardians of the temple are presented as former thieves transformed. Why did these one remain corpses ?
I can surely make my own vision of that question, but would be very happy to have yours.

The first dead thieves were not killed by the same creatures as killed the transformed thieves.

On p. 5, there is a mention of a table for wizard and elf casting in the dungeon. I don't find it... typo ?

There is a table on the top of page 5 (might be 6 in the print version) that starts with 1d7 + Luck modifier. That is the elf and wizard casting table.

Thanks for the very quick answer. No such table in my book : on p. 5 a random treasures found on fallen thieves (2d5) and on page 6, a unique item table (1d5).

The treasure table is on page 4; the magic table is on page 5.

Hey Chad, I just "ordered" a copy myself and the file downloaded and opened without a problem.

Trying clearing your internet cache and redownloading the file. If that doesn't work email me at purpleduckgames@gmail.com and I will work with you to find a solution.

That did it! thank you for the help. Great stuff. While i have you- how about a Campaign Elements "Omnibus". Some are only 12 pages long, so a single book in PRINT with all of them would be great. Or even a combined print copy of your other titles. I just print out the PDFs and keep them in a binder. Id love a printed copy. Thanks again.

We have a total of 15 maps for this series. We likely will not have an omnibus until the series reaches v.15

Solo level 4 thief - Does this mean it can be played solo without a GM, like a gamebook?

Nope. You would still need a GM. But the adventure is structured in such a way that if you wanted to running as a single thief challenge that would be easily doable according to the author.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
