Shadows Over Sol: Consequence Cards

Selected Option:

A key component of the Shadows Over Sol rules are for characters to take consequences - the mechanical representation of various penalties, bonuses or status effects influencing the character. Different mechanics within the game can cause consequences, including special traits, critical successes and failures - or any situation where the GM thinks the consequence will heighten the tension in the game!

Shadows Over Sol: Consequence Cards are a quick and easy way to keep track of consequences in your game. Simply set them on the table in front of you as your character takes consequences, or hand them out to other players when you cause them! Each of the 14 consequences listed in Shadows Over Sol are featured here.

Designed for use with Shadows Over Sol: Science Fiction Horror Roleplaying.

Note: The print version of our Shadows Over Sol: Consequence Cards contains four copies of each consequence. Perfect for GMs handing out cards to players or managing multiple NPCs!

The cards are very pretty, but also really pretty hard to read.
My poor eyes have great difficulty in reading the descriptions on the cards.
Would it be possible to get a simple version without the background and the shadow behind the words.
In all honesty, after printing them out, I can't see how I could use them as is :(

Perhaps an option would be to have the background as a separate layer? That way people could choose whether they want the cards printed with or without the background.

The real problem is the shadow on all the letters, it makes all the words appeared blurred.
This is not so much a problem, but still a problem, with the PDF as each consequence is a single page, but when you print them 8 to A4 page (the size a poker deck would be) definition is lost and the blurring effect come to the fore.

The words were legible in our test print run, but I'll take a look at the cards again and see if I can get a set with cleaner lettering added to the downloadable files.

We have now added a second set of "high contrast" cards to the PDF download. This set should work better with printers that do not have as crisp of a print quality.

How many cards are actually included in the print copy? As a GM aid it will help a lot if there are multiple copies of the consequences to issue to players during the game. I am thinking that there should be at least four copies of each consequence to make a useful deck. The option of adding a Deckbox when purchasing the cards might also be worth considering.

The print copy comes with one card for each consequence. Our thinking was thinking was that we didn't want to force players to purchase multiple copies of each card when they really only need one full set for their character.

I appreciate that but my usual experience indicates that the GM tends to purchase this kind of thing. I really would encourage printing multiple cards much like this product by DwD Studios (http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/121888/Covert-Ops--Condition-Cards).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
