Challenges beyond Measure...
On a planet divided by faith in the Gods and devotion to the Elements, all must pick sides, or be caught between unstoppable forces. In these splendidly illustrated pages are dozens of creatures both fell and benign for use by Game Masters—and players, too—for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. You’ll find the righteously destructive power of the massive alticorn of Idumea; the foul and deadly dread eyebeast, king of the northern swamps; the enigmatic ioun remnant, conglomeration of arcane power; and the peerless perfection of aberration opposition, the paragon flumph! All monsters are complete with statistics to play, background, and a depiction of the creature, be it ally or enemy.

Purple Duck Games brings you its first full-length bestiary of converted gamer favorites and intriguing new selections, in the OGL tradition that considers fans and supporters first. This tome also is another great leap in the development of Purple Duck’s campaign setting of The Patchwork Planet of Porphyra, supported by many products already in circulation and the target of many more to come! Take a glance at the fractured cosmos populated by beasts and beings wondrous and strange...

Monsters of Porphyra Includes:
• More than 100 different monsters including many new monsters.
• 12 reimagined monster templates.
• Foes from across all challenge ratings, environments, and monster types.
• New animal companions and monster cohorts.
• Notes for each monster for use with the upcoming Lands of Porphyra campaign setting, soon to arrive from Purple Duck Games!
• And so much more...

Now nominated for an ENnie in the Best Monster Book/Accessory category.

What’s the difference between this and the “tome of monsters” that you offer?

The Tome of Monsters was made by 4 Winds Gaming in the early days of Pathfinder. From the looks of the reviews, it is not up to the quality of the monster books made by Purple Duck Games. It's not bad, it's just not as good as this book.

Correct. 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming produced Tome of Monsters.

Purple Duck Games later bought their properties and completed a few partial manuscripts.

They would still be shaken when they used channel energy, obviously overcome by the power of their own faith. Or your GM could rule another way.

There is a difference in the paper type and the colour vibrancy for this title. The final book is physically a bit heavier and the colour "pop" better off the page.

From a manufacturing point of view my costs are almost 3 times higher to have the premium colour version printed. So I actually lose a bit of money on it compared to the PDF.

Wow, this book looks absolutely wonderful! Who can argue with a 199-page book of monsters, complete in full colours? I certainly can't, and its great to see some of my old monsters reinvented. Good work, mark.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
