Tintagel's D&D Card Template (CORE)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Physical artifacts are wonderful at the gaming table.  From dice to counters to sheets, we as gamers love to have tools and items to help us play more effectively.  Spells are one of those things that we have to look up constantly and it slows the game down.  So what if you have cards for your spells?  You could go through your deck (spell list) and select the spells you prepare for the day, with handy information on duration, casting time, effects, and material components.

You can buy pre-made cards, but they aren't cheap and you can't customize them with house rules or make your own special cards for abilities or spells.  What about items? What if you need several Healing Potions?  What if more than one person splashed Bard and you need more than one Cure Wounds card?

Make your own.  It's easier than you think.

There is a FREE program called Magic Set Editor that lets you make your own Magic The Gathering cards.  The problem is that you need a template specific to 5th edition DND, with the right fields, icons, and backgrounds...

That's what you are buying here.  This is a Template for Magic Set Editor that lets you make your own 5th Edition DND cards.  Even better, I've already done the work on over 140 spells and items in the CORE rules and am including them as well.  See the sample PDF below for samples of what cards you can make.  You can then print as many as you like.

These templates include:

  • Themes for all PHB classes
  • Various card colors, including black, red, green, yellow, blue, grey, purple, and teal, with gold & silver trim
  • Specific card types for Spells and for Items (general and charged), with custom fields.

Note: These templates work with Magic Set Editor, a free program that allows you to create your own card sets and export or print the card images.  YOU MUST INSTALL MAGIC SET EDITOR to use these.

Please View the README in the zip file for full instructions and Version changes.

IMPORTANT COPYRIGHT NOTICE:  You are buying the templates for these files only.  NO card text is being sold.  You are responsible for entering your own card data.

Double clicking on the set files from the shared link just results in MSE opening at the main menu. If I click open set and point to a set file it just opens a template with no data and console error states "package not found". Not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Replying to my own comment to say that I figured it out. I had to remove the .zip from the archives so that the file extension was .mse-set (even though it's still a zip file)

Hey Jeff. Once you install MSE you should just be able to double click on any set files and they will open in MSE. check the readme file for a link and instructions to get some sets, or create your own. If you are still having issues, you can email me directly. I believe my email is also in the readme file. If you have any issues reply here.

New DM here, this tool is absolutely invaluable! I was wondering if there will be updates to include the new class Artificer, and any of the XgtE sublass features and spells?

This is astonishingly good! Gotta ask though, any chance of adding a line attack symbol for the spell cards? Having all the options except for that one messes with my OCD a little xD.

Either way amazing product.

Really glad that these are still around after having made use of them back in my 4e days. Appreciate the gift that's provided for purchasers of this product.

If I may ask, is this missing a template for a class or two from the PHB? Noticed that the monk and barbarian classes are missing, however fighter and rogue are present. Even though they are not necessarily spell casters.

Monk and barbarian don't cast any spells in core PHB, so I didn't need to make any card templates for them.

Not entirely sure. I use sleeves so I don't have to worry about backing, and it helps keep the cards stiff (I slide a poker card into the sleeve then slide the printed card on top of that). My recent development time was spent making the new Pogs/Tokens product.

Yes, edit the Style files (in each of the mse-style folders) with a text editor and set the font for each field to what you wish.

I absolutely love these! I have been looking for a way to make properly sized item cards without too much hassle.
One thing though, would it be possible to add a printer friendly option in the background/border choices? Maybe a white choice so that you can get all the information but you dont have to spend so much ink on printing. It would really help considering ink isnt too cheap these days. (Unless I am missing something)

I cannot get some of the card sets to load up. I downloaded them, put them into the MSE file, and some, like the paladin load up fine, but some, like the ranger and wizard, do not. Any suggestions?

Hey Joseph. Not sure what the issue is. I just double-checked the link in the Readme file and downloaded the .mse-set file. When I double-click it opens fine. https://i.imgur.com/JGalWRF.jpg

Perhaps you can try re-installing? Make sure the files are in the right place. If you still have issues, email me at: daniel@educatedgamer.net We'll get you squared away via hangout or something.

Just bought these and the templates look great, but I did not get the 140 spells and items you made from the CORE rules. All I got was the data, the fonts, 2 word docs of blank templates and the read-me file. Thanks for help figuring this out and cheers for making these

They are in a link via the Readme document. Download each separately and open them AFTER you have installed MSE and the templates. They should be called Druid Spells.mse-set, warlock spells.mse-set, etc.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
