One of the Unlikely Heroes

Length: 6 pages + licence

Sometimes you choose what god to worship.
Sometimes, the god chooses you.

For reasons unknown to mortals, some few people do not ask, and yet attract the attention of the divine. They are granted abilities the likes of which even the most faithful of priests cannot match. Labeled as witches, or diabolists, or even occasionally as prophets, they are often outcast by normal society and religions. For, after all, what could be more dangerous than someone blessed of the gods, yet not conforming to the established order or faith?

In extreme cases, Powers have been known to invest in the most unlikely of people. A Paladin might awaken to discover abilities granted by the gods of Rot, or an Assassin to find the healing touch gifted by the lords of Order. Though the purpose of this gifting is beyond the ken of the receiver, the Powers always move to a greater, unfathomed purpose.

These gifted, or cursed, are The Mystics.

Fantasy literature abounds with tales of ordinary folk, lifted to the status of Hero by extraordinary events. The Unlikely Heroes are seven character classes with concepts drawn from the standard NPC classes in the DMG. They are for those exceptional people who choose not to adventure, but should fate intervene, their quality shines through.

A compilation of the severn character classes is now avaiable... Click here to take a look. Buy any one of the classes and receive a discount voucher for the Compilation, for the full price of your class of choice!

I honestly bought this just to take a look at the 0-lvl domain spells offered in this product and referenced by the several Colours of Magic series (same publisher). Regarding the modifications to the domains, I was slightly disappointed. It's w [...]

A great idea, I feel like one of d20s biggest weaknesses is the rabid early power progression, there is little time to watch your character grow, the jump from beginner to hero is a little too abrupt. The idea of starting as an every day guy/gal and ha [...]

This PDF presents a low-powered, alternated divine caster class. It's basically a divine caster that gets to choose domains like a cleric, but it can only cast spells from either domain list at start. As a Mystic gains additional levels, he/she can cho [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
