Paranoia Red Clearance Edition

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Welcome to Alpha Complex! Welcome to the ranks of the Troubleshooters! Welcome to Paranoia!

As a Troubleshooter, you are a member of Alpha Complex’s most expendable elite force. Tasked with finding trouble and shooting it, you will be hunting mutants, terrorists, traitors, [CLASSIFIED], secret societies, renegade bots, and DAIVs, which are [REDACTED]. You’ll save Alpha Complex from its greatest threat, unless you accidentally become Alpha Complex’s greatest threat.

Completely rebuilt from the ground up, Paranoia is the classic RPG of a darkly humorous future, rebooted for a humorously dark present. All-new mechanics include a simple yet brilliant character-generation system, a bluffing-based card-driven combat system that encourages creativity, clever moves and lying, a special Computer Dice which means even the simplest interaction can become hilariously fatal, in-game XP point rewards, and more advice to GMs than you can shake a stick at. Three single-session adventures introduce you painlessly to the new mechanics and background, and are designed to be played straight out of the box.

Everything is the same but everything is different.

You look worried, citizen. Relax! It’s still Paranoia. The year is still 214. You still have six clones and a laser pistol. The Computer is still your friend.

Contains:
The Player's Handbook
The Gamesmaster's Handbook
The Missions Book

Is this game friendly for virtual tabletops (Roll20, Astral, etc.)?

Someone told me you need their cards and that the cards come in a single-file block with no options for VTT uploads.

Is it just me being dumb or am I actually missing something from the download? I have the 2 missions, the cards and the game master guide, but i'm missing the players guide. Downloaded everything, looked at every file, looked at the preview picture provided and that page is nowhere to be found, obviously part of the players guide which contains all the rules. Which I need, very annoying and would love an answer to this problem.

Great so my kickstarter pledge gave me a partial taste, while I had to get this for the actual rulebooks. Great.

Still no PoD cards huh. Even though they exist for Mutant Explosion and Redacted Societies.... I can not really figure out what you guys are doing with this IP.

The reason there is no PoD for this is that the physical product can be purchased from the companies Webstore. At lease that is what I am seeing.

Wow. So Mutant Explosion, More Redacted Stories, the Blank Card Deck are all out with PoDs and yet you still can not purchase the PoD cards fro the base set. And people have been requesting them of a long time...

Pretty bad Mongoose...

I just downloaded this, and the Gamesmaster's Handbook is corrupted/not opening at all. Is this something that others have had an issue with?

Mine worked fine. I downloaded the file from here rather then dropbox. Try it again, you should be able to download multicopies.

Anyone else have the issue where marks are being printed in the Moxie circles and/or Wound boxes on the PC sheet? When I test printed at home I got dots in the Moxie and check marks on the Wounds. It didn't resize the 5.5 x 8.5 image when I printed on 8.5 x 11, so I went to Kinko's and tried printing it there. The image resized when I printed on 8.5 x 11 paper (yay!) and oddly the check marks did not print but 3 Moxie circles had a tiny marks. Or maybe it's just me.

Also, I don't have Adobe or any PDF editing software. When I open the file, my laptop opens the file via I.E. I don't know if that matters or not...

Thanks!

How do we get POD cards? There is no way this is going to be a decent PDF product without the option for POD cards especially when the blanks have a POD option. The cards from the blank POD cards wont match ones you make yourself. If that gets fixed I am all in buying everything. Until then I will wait. This is from somebody who has tons of old edition Paranoia stuff, btw.

Thanks (with baited breath)

Understandably, lots of folks want to play this game online. Over at this Reddit thread, we are attempting to gather ideas and concepts for running the new edition -- which uses Action Cards as a means to spice up encounters -- online, whether it's through Roll20, Hangouts, or other means.

Feel free to drop and see what we've got or add new ideas!

https://www.reddit.com/r/ParanoiaRPG/comments/65qpng/paranoia_ultraviolet_edition_how_to_do_cards_when/

Maybe this will also serve to help Mongoose and the designers in coming up with means to run the game online.

There still don't seem to be any good (i.e. non hugely time consuming) ways to import the cards into Roll20 or other online services. That's a shame, as my online gaming group would be interested in playing this game (and I already purchased both the print and PDF versions).

Mongoose, is there any way you could make the individual card images available (as opposed to the current PDF that would require tedious image processing)? That would make it easy to upload these into Roll20.

Mongoose - any updates on this? I've enjoyed this edition of Paranoia and really wanted to play it online over the past year, but unfortunately this is effectively impossible. Really all that's needed is individual jpg images for each card, which could then easily be imported into VTTs such as Foundry. This works great with similar RPGs that come with cards. Online play is such a key aspect of playing RPGs these days, that I find it hard to understand why this is not available. Heck, I'd even be willing to spend a few additional bucks on a set of card images.

Perhaps I'm just a noob when it comes to PnP RPGs, but should the PDF file not be setup for printing immediately?
By this I mean, I just spent a good wad of cash to get these printed in colour, two pages per sheet of paper, but the page numbering is off. Obviously the numbering is meant to be on the outside edges, but when printed as is, they end up in the middle of the book, making it harder to flick to any given page by number. This could be fixed by putting just a single blank page after the cover page, although I feel the actual printed book would have a lot more blank pages, especially at the front of the book.
Even after having everything printed, I went back to check if I could insert a blank page, but of course, the document is locked.

No, pdf's should be set up for people who read it on pdf. You're asking them to do something that I've found causes problems in many cases.

The problem with what you suggest is that when reading the pdf in two-page view, the even page should be left, and the odd page should be on the right. I have way too many rpg pdf's that are set up the way you’re asking, and they end up with the odd page on the left and the even page on the right. This results in an illustration (or heaven forbid, a map) that covers two pages—say pages 8 and 9, for example—being split up so there’s no way to see the whole thing at once. You have to scroll back and forth between page 8, then page 9, then back to page 8, etc. Switching to two-page view mode doesn’t help, because the pdf will only show pages 7 and 8 together, and it shows pages 9 and 10 together, but there’s no way to view pages 8 and 9 together.

I don’t see any places in Paranoia Red Clearance Edition where your suggestion would cause...See more

The thing with any PDF reading program worth it's salt, at least with Adobe's, is you can select a simple menu option to offset that single page. It's literally a 2 second fix versus money spent on printing that can't be undone, nor can it be adjusted in the first place since the document is locked. More than happy to give a tutorial if needed.

The local print shop isn't clever enough to figure this out either, you give them the document, they print it. One job, as is.

It's a minor annoyance that I'll get over, but it'd still be nice to know before I go printing. Perhaps DTRPG needs the option to tag documents as "READY FOR BOOK PRINTING"

Thank you for pointing that out. I just experimented with the view modes again and found it. I didn't know what Cover mode was for. I had tried it previously, but it seemed to have no effect (I hadn't realized that you had to have it in two-page view mode before Cover view mode actually did anything).

So, the game mentions the computer dice. I've looked online, and in the PDFs, but I haven't seen any mention of just what it physically *is*.

Is it a D6, with one side being Computer?

Yes, it's a D6. The Computer replaces the 6, meaning the die is even [strike]less[/strike] MORE helpful than it already sounds!

The cut/fold lines on page 2 of the card set are misaligned and go right through the cards. Also the Mandatory bonus duty title's are really hard to read even zoomed in on the PDF.

Eric, I agree with the misaligned dashes through the cards on page 2 of the cards pdf; it makes those cards easy to identify from the others when playing... I really look forward to this being corrected with an update. Other than that, I am very happy with the game. Please, Mongoose, repair this page of the pdf. Thanks.

It's too expensive. I would love to have it, but it had a kick-starter campaign (initial $$$) plus now it's digital (even more $$$). Print copy price for a digital edition. I pass for now.

Well, peter I have to agree with he expensive pricing they are keeping up. But after the updates on the page count are shown. I figured they are not as bad... Not as bad as Traveller 2nd editions Price. I might go for this one soon, however if it's not worth money going in I will let you know in May.

It is not 107 pages!!! Page count is off. I have purchased this, and the players handbook is 73 pages, gamemasters handbook is 129, and the mission book is 89. There is also a 40 page pdf of print-and-cut cards.

They modified the page-count to say 330 pages overall, which almost adds up to what you said.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
