Caster Prestige Archetypes

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Loyal Patron of Prestige Archetypes,

This book will be full of caster prestige classes expanded into full 20 level classes. The idea is to make these prestige classes fun and easy to play and less dependent on planning and rules knowledge. You also get the prestige abilities sooner.

Caster prestige archetypes are a combination of a prestige class and a regular class. This can always be wizard but also commonly the arcanist, cleric, oracle, psychic, sacerdote, sorcerer, or witch. Each prestige archetype inherits spellcasting and some tricks from the parent class, but most of the abilities come from the prestige class, developing the concept of each class into a full 20 levels.

These are the prestige archetypes in this book will be:

1. Bloodmage
2. Cyphermage
3. Darkfire Adept
4. Davirat
5. Demoniac
6. Diabolist
7. False Priest
8. Mage of the Third Eye
9. Mystic Savant
10. Ren Monolith
11. Riftwarden
12. Souldrinker
13. Tattooed Mystic
14. Veiled Illusionist

The compilation of these archetypes was uploaded March 10, 2018

All the NPCs are made and inserted into the book. I have sent it off to my editor to have the additional text written and a final edit done.

I am hoping for Easter break at the latest.

Just curious why two monster pdfs (Abassy and Alcetus) are in my subscription but I am not seeing the Souldrinker or Veiled Illusionist.

The monsters are bonus content. The Veiled Illusionist has now been added (May 13th). The Souldrinker is still being worked on for our cosmology.

Mark, why does the Riftwarden not have its Planar Guide class feature anymore?

I have sent your question to Carl as he is the best to answer it. I'll post his answer when I get it.

The riftwarden as originally conceived is a very open prestige class, playable with many different classes, even martial classes or semi-martial classes like rangers.

A ranger/reiftwarden looks very different from a wizard/riftwarden.The Riftwarden prestige archetype as given here is more focused on spellcasters, and gains abilities that mesh with spellcasting. If I include the Riftwarden in a book of skilled/ranger archetypes, I might make a variant of the Prestige Archetype that drops the prestige classes' focus on spells and focuses more on abilities like planar guide.

Hope this explains my design decision.

Have Demoniac and Diabolist been released, yet? I see downloads for 1-4, 7, and 8, but not for 5 or 6.

They were in queue to be my January releases but they aren't quite gel-ing yet. So they are still in development and I moved forward with the False Priest and the Mage of the Third Eye instead.

The modular nature of the Build Classes is a HUGE bonus and ensures that these are going to see a good deal of use at my table. And I'm thrilled to see the sacerdote included. I can't wait for the rest to come out, and I'd like to thank everyone at Purple Duck for years of quality material.

The credit for that goes to Carl. He saw it as a benefit. I was wary to change formats because the series has done well as it is. Still, it was the right choice to go forward. I am pleased to have talented freelancers to work with.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
