Sunken Temple (5e)

Selected Option:

In the forbidden places of this world, where civilization has yet to penetrate, there dwell horrors of a primeval age. Scholars speak of these elder things - these morguul things - only hesitantly, for to drink too deeply of their lore is to stain one’s very soul.

Sunken Temple is an adventure for the 5e Roleplaying Game, intended for five characters of 6th level. The adventure takes place in a mysterious range of never-before-seen mountains and is suitable for use in any setting. Sunken Temple is inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, particularly The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and At the Mountains of Madness.

I just purchased this adventure, and I am very excited to perhaps add this on to my Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign. I do wish, however, that I could get the art of the creatures, npcs, and maps separately so that I could use them on roll20.

curious as to why you've moved away from the formatting and layout of the Book of Terniel; found that to be innovative and very easy to use as a GM (and great content)

If you're primarily talking about placing monster stat blocks in an appendix rather than in the main text, it is simply a matter of page space. Putting everything into an Appendix uses far fewer pages than duplicating those stat blocks over and over throughout the module.

Not just; Terniel feels a lot less dense; more use of smaller bulleted text, call outs, placement of pictures to enhance specific points, briefer upfront summaries.

Gotcha. I did try out some different things. The shorter read-alouds with supporting bullets is a good example, and I prefer the prior (Terniel) style to the latter (Sunken Temple), which I'll use in the future. Part of the reasoning for longer text was an attempt to invoke specific atmospheric themes. The artwork was handled differently as well, I had everything up front vs ordering up specific pieces as the project continued. That wasn't a conscious choice, just a bi-product of my process. I really appreciate the feedback, and will incorporate your thoughts into future work.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
