Jump Temp

Selected Option:

Jump Temp is a space opera game where players take to the stars in space ships that would look familiar to a NASA engineer. Artificial gravity is made by spinning up a ship or a space station and your crew will look at you funny if you suddenly yelled out "Shields up!" because they don't exist.

Space is dangerous. Blistering heat and frigid cold along with random doses of deadly radiation have to be battled constantly. There has to be a reason for you to want to live in space.

Jump Temp uses The Energy System, designed to handle a wide variety of situations in one mechanic that is richly tactical and narrative.

Hello--

I think I must be misunderstanding something in Jump Temp: if I'm understanding correctly, a 10d character with the Specialty: Augmented (5d) and a 4-step Attribute (2d) can't have a Wrench & Socket Set or a pair of Binoculars (3d)! Can that be right?

Thanks,
Fred H.

Adding 2d of another attribute to an augment would drop the character down to 3d energy. That is about as far as I'd go to still have a functional character. Basically Augments are highly specialized to what their augment does. They're really really good at what they do, but it doesn't leave much room for other things. I would go with either the equipment (would cost 1d for the binoculars and wrench and socket set) and contribute a die to the group's ship or the 2d of attributes. Remember, don't sweat the small stuff. If you're giving the character a technical trait, they can use it to do repairs even without the wrench and socket set, the tools just help. Actually you can do repairs without the technical trait, but there's just a really good chance of depleting dice (1 in 6).

If the GM is okay with it, there are other options. The character specializations are strongly worded suggestions. I felt that putting in "build your own" might just make character creation a slow slog, but you could...See more

Okay, but--and sorry to be anal about this--pgs 37-38 show both items as Cost 3d, System Pool 1d, so how do you get them costing 1d?

Totally fine. When buying agents in character creation you get 6d of agent(s) for 1d of the character's energy dice. Under "Making Agents" page 17. I'll look into making that more explicit. You're permanently spending energy dice to specialize so it has to trade up by getting more die from the agent or it wouldn't be worth it.

AH! The light dawns. I'd thought each item's listed cost came directly out of the character's own energy dice, with the 6d being what was available for use in the item's system pool, and was going through contortions trying to figure out how that was practical. This makes much more sense. Thanks!

Two small spelling mistakes: first line "artifical" (artificial) and first line of 2nd paragraph "fridgid" (frigid).
I have a heavy preference for SF (or in this case a space game with realistic current tech.), but US$10 for 86 pages is a bit much in a price-per-page perspective, unless loaded with color art.

I'll fix those mistakes, I recently realized that the spell checker doesn't work in text fields on DTRPG and I do admit to heavily leaning on spell checker. Left to my own devices I am terrible at spelling a fact that my friends and family will readily attest to.

As for price, I'm in line for a deal of the day. You could snag the game then. I'm planning on running some sales periodically also. If you like I can try and flag you when they start.

Certainly! I've added those pages to the full size preview. At least I can try. The preview is currently coming up blank. I'll keep trying.

So, the lovely staff at DriveThru helped me out, the preview was apparently too big and crashing things so we had to pair it down to 6 pages but at least you get the table of contents now :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
