This map has made to the Portal Under the Stars, the Dungeon Crawl Classics core adventure.

You’ll find only the main area descriptions in my release, if you need the whole adventure with the longer description and encounters, you will find it in the DCC RPG core rulebook or in the “DCC RPG Free RPG Day Adventure Starter 2011 PDF” on the Goodman Games website.

This adventure is perfect for everyone who has just started their exploration of this word because it is for level 0-1 characters.

I hope this map will immerse your gamers more deeply in the adventure during your first session and will lend that little extra excitement to your game.

You can also use the isometric visual aid that you’ll find in the digital version of this product to describe areas more easily.

I’ve included JPG files for online players in the digital version and the same map broken into pages that you can print out at home. There are layers in these pdf files and you can hide the grid lines by using them before you print.

You’ll also find the top-down view of the statue of an ancient barbarian in the set. You can cut around it and use it against your players. This statue has a big role in Area 3 and you can follow the movement of your players with it more easily this way.

The printed version of the map is on 6x6 inch sized and double sided card-tiles. The edge of the tiles fit to the walls of the rooms, so you can lay them out and reveal the new rooms as the story goes forward, just like a “fog of war” system.

The other side of the tiles contain the same map but without any grid lines. This version can be helpful for those who want to use this map with a different system or only as a visual aid for their game.

arrow_orange.png Features of the digital version:

Image format:
- JPG files for virtual tabletop players: 100dpi (1 inch=100px)
- PDF with the map broken into pages (US Letter): 300DPI
- Description:  PDF, 200DPI

+ Isometric Visual Aid: you will get the isometric version of the map that you can show your players or use as a handout in your adventure. It makes the area descriptions easier and provides the players with more immersion.

You will get 29 double sided map-tiles!

This set includes 29 tiles (3 info + 26 map-tiles ),

The area descriptions are printed on the tiles.

Who creates these maps and what makes them "3D"?

Hi, my name is Antal Kéninger, a graphic artist from Central Europe.
I’m the guy behind Black Scrolls Games and I’ve been in the tabletop game business for seven years, working with other publishers and playing with friends on the weekend (when we all have time for it).

As you can see, I don’t really like the full top-down view. In most of my maps you can see the side of the walls, too. It makes the area look more alive, lets me add more details and make a “3D game” feeling for the players around the table.

I use professional software programs to sculpt the models, set the scene and render the final image. Every model that you can see in the maps/tiles is modeled and textured by me. If you are interested in the process, read more on my site.

I hope you will also enjoy my maps and tiles, at least as much as I enjoyed working on them!

This is the best map for the Portal Under the Stars adventure. A++. I also love the image of the portal on the cover. Is there any way we could get just the image without the words to use as a player visual aid when they see the portal? The art is perfect, but it has the title and names all over it. This would be very helpful. Thanks.
Let me know if you have maps for any other adventures.

Hi !
Great idea to have it totally "connected" to a published story. Do you have the project to continue with DCC adventures ? I would suggest the very popular "Sailors of the starless sea".

The maps look beautiful. I do have a suggestion. I would include the War Wizard statue on the map. You can use the printed overlay or the model (which I intend to get as soon as my 3D printer is fixed) when it goes into action. Otherwise, you spoil the surprise.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
