Career Path Character Generation

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Starfinder character generation puts all of the choices into your hands, allowing you to create any character concept that you’d like play. This is a great way of doing character creation, but sometimes you want something different—something random, something very random.

Like, “Holy Crap! I just died during character creation!” random.

If you find yourself in that mood, if you find yourself wanting to “discover” the character that you’ll be playing as opposed to “building” it, Career Path Character Creation (CPCC) is for you. You’ll start out playing a character with a full-blown history as opposed to a character fresh off the farm.

Hi Joseph! Great work. I bought it as I see it as a tool to help me understand Starfinder / D20 systems better, coming from a mainly Traveller (Classic, Mongoose, Cepheus Engine) background, and to develop Starfinder characters in a fashion more akin to Traveller. What is very "alien" to me is the concept of class/levels/XP. In particular, what I am not sure about - is CPCC meant to be complete as a Starfinder Character Generation framework? I read your discussion with Derek H below, you say that in CPCC you start as being "classless" but you also mention that you could choose to "continue classes." But could you flesh out a CPCC character without joining any class process - can one avoid the class/level system altogether? If so, it would be great to get more guidance on further skills/abilities/feats/proficiencies et al for character advancement, so that a CPCC character could compete favourably with a more conventionally classed/levelled Starfinder character. Sorry, I...See more

So I have a question... in Steps G, H and I it talks about all that's left is choose a theme, buy equipment and do enemies, rivals, etc... But it doesn't mention choosing your Class. You do still do this, correct?

Nope! You start out "classless" and as you advanced (see page 2, Leveling with CPCC) you can either choose to continue classes and make advanced via GM and Player fiat choices, or start up a 1st level character and then advance normally after that.

Thanks, missed that part.

Another question. It says "Roll 1d6 twice on any of the following tables" That implies both rolls must be on the same table, is this correct?

Also, when Mustering out do you roll once on EACH of the tables? Or do you pick one?

I like this supplement but it really could have used someone going over it to clarify a lot of this stuff in the text.

For example in step 5 "Gain all the skills listed in the Service Skills table at rank 1 unless you already know the skill, then just add 1 rank to your current rank."

But the Service Skill is not a table, and if, as stated below, this is supposed to mean "Service Knowledge" There are no "ranks" associated with it, it's a random roll. So I'm not sure what "all the Skills" this is referencing. Also because several items on the table aren't skills.

So is this actually supposed to mean "Skill or Benefit" section of the Rank & Benefit table?

On a similar note, step 6 says to roll on "Personal Development, Assignment table (based on your particular assignment), or Advanced Education (if you meet the requirement)." but under the Skill & Training section of the terms area it includes...See more

5. Gain all the skills listed in the Service Skills table.
Is this the skill under Service Knowledge?

Fun supplement. Thinking of giving the officers of the PC's ship history using this.

That's correct. It should be 5. Gain all the benefits (since they're technically not all skills) under Service Knowledge.

Page 27 is the cover. It's at the end to maintain spreads without a blank page.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
