My first supers game and so I have a lot of fondness for the IP. Love to see the updates.

The art could have been updated however and mixed in with some classic pieces. Combine the classic with the new.

It's 2022, to release a PDF without bookmarks; and to lock down the PDF we pay for so you cannot even bookmark itself is poor publishing. It takes like 60 seconds with a modern word processor to scan your table of contents and provide much more functionality.

This seems like a small detail; but useability is a huge deciding factor on using a system, especially in the digital age.

Just grabbed a hardcover copy! V&V was the first superhero RPG I played. It will be interesting to see how things have no doubt evolved!

Very excited for this! Like many it was my first Supers game, and I loved it to death. Glad to see the fires still burn.

I'm also excited that this appears to be a modern, inclusive system. The gender table? Love it. TONS of opportunity for respectful role play (and this from a cis WM). Credit to V&V for making a stand, and refreshing a favorite of mine.

Hi guys, I'm a V&V fan from the old days and of course I had to get this one.
I really like the game. But like always guys you dropped the ball on the presentation, see, I'm like most of your customers are fans of comic books, and by default we love and I mean love colors.
That's something you don't bring in your book. I can understand if you don't bring it on the adventure modules but the main rules book?
Come on, that is your life, your bread and butter, your make it or break it moment.
You had to go for broke on it, also, please, with a new edition, it calls for new art.
You had way too many recycled pieces from your old work on the book that just made it look meeh, not too appealing to new generation of gamers.
Also, please, the font, you need to make it a little more reading friendly, what the heck, I almost had to go and get a magnifying glass to be able to read the book the font is so small. I understand you want to cram a lot of information and...See more

Purchased both the Hard and Soft copy of the game. Would be nice to see a tutorial video on the game mechanics. I haven't played V&V since the 80's. Any plans to tutorial videos on YouTube?

Just purchased... the pdf needs work, there are no bookmarks, and page numbers don’t match... very difficult to jump around.

That's a problem. The cost to bookmark the release file is literally $20 for someone's time. After I spend $20+ Canadian (based on a now $15 USD price point, closer to $50 CDN based on $30USD retail) on a PDF it's apparantly wrong to expect bookmarks?

What is the combat like in this game (say compared to D&D 5e)? I'm trying to find a super hero game that would be familiar (to 5e) and easy to run/play. I've only played Champions before and absolutely hated that system.

There are some similarities to D&D. To hit, you roll low on a d20 vs. the target's Defense, which is their Agility save minus 10, with bonuses for their target's super abilities and minuses from the attacker's super abilities. If you hit, there's a damage roll which depends on the strength of the attacker's ability. Armor protection may block some of the damage. Every character has both Hit points and Power points; Power points can be used to soak up some of the damage, avoiding Hit point injury but making the defender tired. There's a bit more to it than that, but those are the basics. It's pretty fast and easy to use.

Trying to understand character creation; if you aren’t randomly rolling your charcters do you still pick 2 offensive and 2 defensive abilities to be your ‘core’ abilities? It isn’t very clear on this and only one table ever mentions core abilities.

No, you don't 'have to' pick 4 core Abilities if you aren't rolling randomly. You can spend your total CPs however you like. We do suggest that walking through the random generation process and just picking things, rather than rolling, is still a good way to get a well-rounded character. But it's not a requirement.

Hope that helps!

Oh, and by the way: please bring your questions over to the forums at the Monkey House Games website, or the Mighty Protectors page on Facebook. Thanks!

Does this version still use the V2.1 Combat Table requiring a cross refencing of attack type and Defense to determine hit potential?

We've streamlined combat in 3.0. All attacks (except for a few special cases) now fall into one of five standard 'damage types'; Kinetic, Energy, Biochemical, Entropy and Psychic. Defensive abilities now either reduce damage taken from one or more damage type, or they affect the attacker's chance to hit in general. This speeds up combat quite a bit, compared to the old look-up table.

This isn't Mighty Protectors related but I thought you might like to know that The International Super Teams supplement for GURPS Supers was based on a V+V 1st edition I ran in the old days at Rutgers. I have author credit for campaign material that I put in the book based on the campaign.

Key question. Is there still random generation of powers? That was one of the best things about V&V, rolling for powers and then coming up with themes that fit them all. In fact I made random tables for Champions because I missed that aspect.

Mighty Protectors features completely integrated random power selection and point-balancing. So you can either roll randomly and leave it at that, or roll randomly and then customize, or build a character to fit a specific concept. We did this by introducing weaker and stronger increments of each ability, and adding 'Ability Modifiers' (so you can adjust the range, power requirement, duration, etc. of each ability as you see fit, or make it a device, or make it require a 'skill check', etc., which can free up 'points' that you can shift elsewhere). This also enables GMs to run campaigns at different power levels: new PCs in a 'low-powered' campaign simply get weaker versions of their randomly generated abilities (or fewer points to 'spend'), and vice-versa.

TL:DR: Check out the Full-Size preview; much of the character generation process is visible there :)

I am extremely disappointrd. this is less a follow on v@v then it is living legend 2.o. they left out my favorite thing in v@v, the power cocomparison table. the fluff part was extrmly disa appointed no stats just a brief write up. It is very confusing in the powers section I'm still trying to figure how to roll for the level of the power. I feel iwas misled and extremely disappointed in mr dee and monkeyhouse games

Thanks for your interest. We are working to make that happen as soon as possible. We are in the process of shipping the physical hardcover and softcover books to our Kickstarter backers now. Once that has been completed, then very soon afterwards we will put the physical hardcover and softcover books up for sale.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
