Dawning Star: Fate of Eos

ADD TO WISHLIST >

A full re-imagining of the critically acclaimed Dawning Star setting, using the Fate System rules. Fate of Eos advances the Fate rules to with a bit more crunch to serve as a sort-of bridge from the original d20-based setting to this new version.

The book includes a full history of Dawning Star including recent events along with rules for character creation (including making your own species), tech, and the mysterious psionic phenomenon known as Red Truth. It features dozens of new skills, stunts, and more, and offers entirely new ways to use Fate, such as a more robust damage system new kinds of aspects.

It's a rather action-oriented setting, with many more pages about armor and weapons than about spaceships, computers and ancient alien artifacts.

Planetside adventures, on a relatively densely populated and very Earth-like planet, are clearly intended to be prevalent: FTL travel capability has been lost and no spaceship is going anywhere interesting.

Many factions: human colonists (from two of the giant ships that escaped Earth before its destruction) split into the Republic and separatist, almost at war minor colonies; exceptionally evil aliens to kill without remorse; their alien enemies (collected as refugees); native friendly aliens; semi-contacted less friendly aliens on other planets.

Some mysterious but not weird backstory elements, not affecting the mostly mundane and "boring" style of most tech, aliens and situations.

I'm not a Fate expert, but rule changes appear very conservative (some adapted or reorganized skills, racial packages of...See more

Just wondering but what are the fonts used in the production of this book?

Instead of telling us that the setting is a copy of an old setting (I don't know anything about); tell me what the setting is about. I have no intention of purchasing anything without at least a written version of the elevator speech describing the setting.

Well, the blurb for the original (d20 version) Dawning Star on this site is :-

The human spirit shines greatest during the darkest of times. Never was this proven more fully than in the year 2196. With certain doom hurtling toward our planet, the free countries of the world united and prepared for a mass exodus aboard a score of gargantuan transports. But our escape was just the beginning of the adventure. By some freak occurrence, our ship, the Dawning Star, was sent hurtling across the galaxy. We found ourselves alone, cut off from the fleet, in alien territory. It was not in our nature to give up. We found a habitable planet and began our new life. In the intervening years, we have encountered strange new species, overcome dire threats, and taken the first few steps in building a new life.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
