The Hum (from Wikipedia): The Hum is a phenomenon, or collection of phenomena, involving widespread reports of a persistent and invasive low-frequency humming, rumbling, or droning noise not audible to all people.

The Grand Bavarian Hotel was once frequented by Gilded Age luminaries like Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Houdini, and even Nikola Tesla. Now, after decades of neglect, it’s enjoying a renaissance as popular tourist attraction: The most haunted hotel in America. Stay for a night or a weekend, or enjoy a 1920s-themed masquerade ball. Take the tour of the most haunted floors, or see the “Amazing Tesla Science Engine.”

Except that the Tesla engine has been stolen. And stories of the hauntings now seem to be more frequent—and credible. The Estate wants to know if all this is related to the low-frequency hum some people claim to have heard as far away as Denver itself—a hum that has allegedly led to a string of gruesome suicides.

The Hum is an adventure for The Strange suitable for beginning or experienced players.

Note: The total page count of 36 pages includes the 18-page adventure, plus 6 double-sided pre-generated characters with accompanying recursion sheets.

Couple questions as this looks interesting to me...

1. I do not own the Strange. Is this super tied to the setting or could I get out the important bits and use it in a different system?
2. It is not clear to me in the description. Is this set in modern times? If not could it be adapted to a game set in the modern times?

Caveat: i have not read this module.

That said:
1) Generally speaking you can use The Strange setting stuff with any system that can switch genres. So depending on system mastery, this could be done with gurps, Savage Worlds or Fate for example.
However the Cypher System (the generic system that's the engine behind Numenera and The Strange) very easily supports a specific thing in The Strange setting: characters that switch worlds (that's called "translating" in The Strange) adapt to the new world they switch to. So a modern day FBI agent switching to a fantasy world could become a knight or a ranger for example - however due to the system, it's still 2/3rd the same character, it's just the 'flavor' that becomes genre specific, and the powers and abilities tied to that.
2) The 'core' world in The Strange is modern day earth; however it is part of the game to switch to other realities, which may be high fantasy, hard scifi, apocalyptic ancient egypt, sherlock holmes london,...See more

As a day-1 backer of The Strange I do not regret it at all. The system speaks to me on so many ADHD multi-genre levels. lol

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
