GM's Maps #56: Funeral Parlor

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Map making can be time-consuming and sometimes frustrating for GMs, especially GMs with limited time to begin with. In our new 'GM's Maps' range, we will be providing a range of pre-made maps for you to use in your games.

Death comes to us all, it is said, and when it does many of us will pass through the hands of the undertakers at the Funeral Parlor.

Also known as Funeral Homes, these businesses provide mortuary services, undertakers and make arrangements for funerals.

Who would have thought such a mundane, and frankly grim, the location could be the site of all kinds of action, excitement and adventure?

This product includes a blueprint style map, a key of the single-story establishment and it's surprisingly extensive basement and a series of adventure hooks and ideas.

Examples:

8/. What Do You Mean it's Inside the Dead Guy?

The PCs have to break into the funeral home and recover a valuable piece of a cybernetic technology. The item is a prototype, and it is installed in someone who is dead and in the morgue at the funeral parlour. How exactly it came to be installed in someone who wound up in a standard funeral parlour is something the manufacturers don't want to talk about, but they need their tec. back and they want it done on the QT.

11/. Trapped in the Funeral Directors

PCs find themselves trapped in the Funeral Directors. Unable to escape, some inexplicable invisible shield is keeping them in. Ghostly apparitions abound and the PCs are gradually losing Willpower/Sanity (Or your preferred system's closest analogue). When a characters Willpower or Sanity is sufficiently low, they reach the realisation that they are dead, they are the ghosts and they vanish. The 'Ghosts' that they see are actually the living (perceived from the perception of a ghost).

(Concept by A Farbridge)

12/. To Go Not Whole to the Grave

After exhuming several bodies relating to another case, the authorities have discovered that several of them are missing parts. An undercover investigation is launched and eventually, the PCs discover that the owners funeral directors have a dark secret–their adopted daughter is a ghoul and they have been feeding her parts of the corpses before replacing the missing parts with prosthetic replacements prior to the funerals

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
