What is a king without a kingdom? What is a kingdom without a castle?

Volondor: "The City," is perhaps the world's largest city map set. (Mapped to floor-plan level of detail.) Volondor is unlike any other city map due to the number, size, variety and details of its floor plans. Over 100 "unique" building floor plans intelligently arranged to form a huge walled castle surrounded by a large city. This city was realistically designed with defense, economy and entertainment in mind. (This city offers many interesting tactical and role-playing locations.)

This set includes World Map of Voldaria, a Regional Map of the Midlands, an Outer-City Area Map, and a Castle Area Map. The Castle Map is drawn in floor-plan fashion on nine 8x11 inch pages. (Which may be printed, then taped together to form one giant map.) Buildings depicted in this map set range in size from a 3x3 foot outhouses, to a full size palace. (The inner city/castle area is well over one million square feet in size.) Floor-plans depict such details as types of locks used on doors, where torches, doors and windows are set into walls, and what furniture might be in rooms. (Including treasure chests.) Maps also depict objects such as walls, towers, gates, stairs, baths, statues, wells, traps, animal pens/stables and more. (Using these maps for a guide, the experience GM can easily give detailed narrative descriptions of every building/room/location in Volondor.)

Building floor-plans include a variety of interesting locations such as: A palace with royal ballroom, a theater, a firehouse, a court house, a city jail, a town hall, a blood pit, a swimming pool, a library, a museum, a university, a primary school, a dorm, a prison, a thieves guild and a Coliseum. (Coliseum includes animal pens, slave pens, monster pens, and gladiator's quarters.) It also includes dozens of stores, various low, middle and upper class homes, various guilds, various guard barracks, various fast food stands, two warehouses, several taverns/inns, three brothels and more! (Where ever adventure might take your characters you will have a detailed floor-plan to guide their way.)

This map set also details sewer grates and the location of over 100 dungeon entrances that correspond to locations on the "Volunder" Map Set. (100+ Dungeon Floor Plans, soon to be released.) It also contains unique objects like a 50 ton crane in the shipyard, a tall lighthouse, a wizard tower, and a large river water wheel for grinding grain.

In addition this set contains optional SSD city "bonus" material that includes: 100 Random NPCs, and random city encounter tables. (Based on location.) Random city law and punishment tables. A Voldarian monetary chart, an A-Z list of shops and stores, with a large inventory of useful items. (Some tailor made items.)

The size of walls, number of towers, types of siege equipment is also detailed in this map set, along with the type and number of men in the guard force, and siege supplies. (Basic guard equipment is also included.)

Furthermore, all major industry and entertainment venues are highlighted, along with general notes regarding basic government, laws, and punishments.  Brief notes regarding the world of Voldaria, the Midlands region, and the city were also included. (Such as probable random encounters near the city.)

Volondor: "The city," is designed to be used with other "Age of Volondor" (AoV) products, and/or with "any" other game systems where a detailed city maps may be useful. Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
