Space Stations VI : Orbital Traffic Control Center
by Randy M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/28/2014 21:27:23
Well put together background info on important characters. I only ran across one small item: a mis-spelling in the first paragraph of the pdf. "Boats" should equal "Boast" I believe.

Anyway. I liked it.

Battlemap : Octagon Shrine
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 07/08/2014 08:37:17
This battlemap presents a beautiful and peaceful shrine with an Oriental feel to it. The sort of place you might go to meditate or celebrate, it somehow doesn't feel right to use it for a brawl...

And yet. it's quite easy to think of reasons why a fight might break out. Despite its calm and peaceful appearance, the shrine may be dedicated to an evil god. Or you may be called upon to defend it against the powers of darkness... or you may just be an adventurer in search of loot.

Set in a forest clearing, the shrine is mounted on two platforms set at angles to one another, which gives an interesting set of terrain for multi-level action.

You get a multi-page PDF with a square grid and a ZIP file which only contains one giant JPEG image of the scene without a grid, for use with virtual tabletop systems or if you have access to poster-printing facilities. You can, of course, edit or label the JPEG version before use.

Battlemap : Archaeological Dig
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 05/12/2014 11:12:13
An interesting battlemap that just begs to have an adventure written around it. Quite timeless too, so whether you are running a fantasy, contemporary or future game there's scope for incorporating it.

The situation is quite straightforward, a dig is in progress unearthing a giant marble statue of a human or at least humanoid figure. What it is, what it portends, is up to you; as is how it was discovered in the first place. Will something dire take place if it is completely uncovered? What secrets are there to be revealed? Does the party want to dig it out or prevent it from seeing the light of day? Are they real archaelologists or mere treasure hunters seeking to make a profit from whatever they find?

There are a few tents for the archaeological team, platforms and ramps to gain access to the dig site and the giant statue itself.

Art is clear and crisp, although you will need to work out depths based on the elevation on the cover as the top-down view does not give you much to go on. There's a multi-page print-and-stick-together version and a massive single sheet version for virtual tabletop users.

Many games make use of archaeological discoveries so be it Cthulhu or pulp, something in the far future or something to puzzle your fantasy characters there is likely to be a use for this.

Battlemap : Mountaintop Oracle
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 05/05/2014 09:42:36
Presenting a suitable setting for a climactic battle or some strange goings-on, this battlemap depicts a strange construction on top of a mountain. Given it's supposed to be on a high and rugged mountain, you might well wonder how it got there in the first place.

The centrepiece is a bronze brazier, arround which there is a double ring of marble monoliths. In turn this structue is surrounded by rough rocks through which you have to scramble to get there (and which will provide excellent cover once combat breaks out).

There is a good illustration that shows what the oracle looks like, and the traditional top-down battlemap view presented in both a multi-sheet version to print and stick together or a single giant image for those wishing to use a virtual table top.

Illustration is crisp and clear, and gives a good feel for the place. One might have expected a few drifts of snow, but maybe that's part of the mystery: why such a high point is without snow... particularly if the party has had to fight its way through snow drifts to get there.

Battlemap : Dark Altar
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 04/07/2014 10:13:54
Just the place for the final showdown with whatever bunch of fanatics worship here...

Much of the ancient temple appears to have fallen into disrepair, and there's some nasty unidentified oozey gunk all over the place, but the lights and cages suggest some deluded fools still come here to venerate whatever this altar is dedicated to... and who knows, they may even summon it up!

With an overview sketch that shows how the relief works, a series of pages to paste together or a zip file with a really big single-page version (word to the wise, the same name of 'nogrid-complete' is used for EVERY zip file this publisher releases, remember to change the name if you buy more than one or they'll overwrite previous ones when downloaded!) for those using a virtual table top or who have access to a poster-scale printer, you have all that you need to set the scene for a climactic battle! And it looks good too. In a creepy sort of way. Just the thing for the intended purpose.

Battlemap : Jousting Field
by Malcolm W. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/21/2014 07:11:08
This map is nicely done, but I was disappointed that a gridless version wasn't included. The only scenario that the author considered is printing out the maps and using them on a physical table, in which case a grid is great. But with the rise of VTTs like Roll20.net, GMs now have the option of superimposing grids that suit their games (whether that's square or hex), and changing the scale, color and transparency of the grid. So gridless versions of maps like this are becoming more desirable, and common. The ultimate for me would be one complete map (not cut into tiles) with no grid. I would have paid more for it even.

I hope the author (and others) will take this advice to heart and start reissuing their maps in this VTT- and GM-friendly format.

Thank you for your feedback. I recently started including complete and gridless versions of the maps for use with VTT software with newer releases. I will look into updating this one with a gridless map for VTT use as well. If you need such an update for any other of my battlemaps let me know one way or another and I will try to update it.
That would be great! I\'ll update my rating as soon as you provide the new file. If you could announce it in this thread I\'ll be sure to receive the notice right away. Looking forward to it, thanks!
Snow Crawler

Well, that was a disappointment -- I thought this was to be a paper model of a crawler, that's how it appeared in the email advertisement, but it is just a stat block and a pretty picture (of a paper model!). A total waste of my 78 cents.

I\'m sorry to hear about this misconception. Sadly I can\'t even begin to comprehend how the conclusion that this might be a paper model came to be. I don\'t send out advertisement emails and I highly doubt that this product was advertised as a paper model in a OneBookShelf newsletter either. The product description, short and to the point, quite clearly states that the PDF contains statistics and an illustration for game use. In addition the quick preview available shows the whole PDF. I can not imagine that anything in this preview hints at a cut out paper model. In addition, just to make sure, I checked if the product was by accident listed in the wrong category, which it wasn\'t.
Simia Aerodyne Limousine
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 02/14/2014 10:33:45
This product presents a small and quite neat aerodyne vehicle which apparently was pulled from the market before it even had a chance to be a failure. There's nothing to suggest that it would have been either a failure or a massive success... a few are around, however, so it is the sort of thing that will have people scratching their heads when they see one. (Something I know all too well, I used to drive an unusual Renault model called a Safrane which even puzzled the cops who attended when someone rear-ended me!).

Anyway, it's a civilian pleasure vehicle requiring a driver and carrying up to four passengers. In how much comfort is not clear, but it looks quite roomy and the comfort no doubt depends on how much you want to spend on the interior.

Perhaps the party will notice it and need to describe it to cops or insurance people, but cannot identify make and model...

Starships Book I00II0 : Kite Class Corvette
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 01/24/2014 04:58:27
Looking oddly like a beetle, the Kite Class Corvette has excellent sensors, but limited range and rather cramped quarters - meaning that crews generally have to pull double duty as there isn't space for enough people to run more civilised shift patterns. It seems to serve well in system defence modes, however.

There is a rather muddled account of the development of this class of vessel, apparently done in tandem with the Cutlass Heavy Fighter which uses it as a mobile base. The success of the Kite has rather piggybacked on sales of the Cutlass, it seems, to the delight of the manufacturer (just who that is we are not told...).

Some notes on typical crew - generally fresh out of Space Academy - are given, along with full stats, several external views and a deckplan. This shows how cramped it is - you have to walk through the Ship's Locker to get to the Bridge, and there are no common areas whatsoever!

The beetle-like appearance is due to huge sensor booms, by the way.

Best use for this vessel is a near-planet patrol, something your party may encounter as they arrive in-system.

Adventure Seed - The Christmas Robbery
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 12/23/2013 10:30:52
Potential excellent, execution flawed... bestrewn through a jumbled outpouring of information there are the strands of a good plot in which to embroil the characters, but it is difficult to tease them out into an organised storyline.

So a bank robbery has taken place... for a start, there is absolutely no indication of why the party should get involved. The limited amount of information that is made public (that the characters could reasonably have access to) is muddled up with details of what was actually going on, likewise the evidence that they can unearth should they decide to start investigating.

The annoying thing is, it is a very good plot... there is plenty of scope for getting characters into all sorts of trouble, with different factions involved and the potential for an interesting news story as well. There's even a good handout in the shape of the local broadsheet newspaper headlines of the robbery to hand to your players. A sensible structure, an introduction explaining how the whole affair comes to the party's attention, then a logical description of what can be discovered and how coupled with the background of what's really taking place and I would be shouting how wonderful this is...

Starships Book I00I00 : Heavy Yacht
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 12/19/2013 10:54:01
This work introduces a quite fascinating starship: the Trilobite-class heavy yacht. Noted for heavy armour and shielding, it's designed to be able to make close approaches to stars and enter heavily-irradiated areas... and all to provide new thrills for jaded nobility and other persons of wealth!

A second use is suggested - black ops insertion - as the vessel is quite stealthy even if it does not bear weapons. It also seems to me that research scientists might find it useful, provided that they work for a university or other institution with very deep pockets, as this is not a cheap starship - over 600 MCr.

Because of its intended clientele, the interior is luxurious and the crew includes several stewards to cater to the passengers' every whim.

As well as backhistory of the type and full statistical details, there are several exterior views and a deckplan (although for some reason the bridge is buried in the centre of the ship when there is an ideal 3-seat area in the upper level to the front... I think I'll remodel the layout in mine!).

Certainly an interesting starship to encounter, or even to use with a party interested in exploration - or luxurious adventuring!

Battlemap : Stilt Houses
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 12/09/2013 10:36:36
It's a charming setting and looks a lot warmer than the UK in December... perhaps that's because such stilt houses are popular in the far east.

The scene is simple, a cluster of houses linked by walkways in a shallow lake ('cos big waterlilies like the ones to be seen only grow in shallow water), with a few trees along the shoreline.

The cover illustration shows the location more clearly than the actual battlemap, which is of course in the standard top-down view so all you see is the house roof rather than the more interesting bits underneath (open-sided airy rooms and of course the stilts).

It could certain prove an interesting and unusual setting: perhaps a rebel force has holed up here, or some drug runners... or it may be a pleasant vacation spot for the party!

Starships Book I00000 : T-C-300 Freighter
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 10/24/2013 10:47:24
It is good to have a wide range of ships plying the space lanes, so this is an interesting and unusual craft to add to the mix. Repurposed from a military vessel, the T-C-300 Freighter was (officially) disarmed before being sold on although, life in the black being what it is, many merchants have mounted weapons of their own after purchase. Alas, some pirate, ahem, ethically challenged merchants have picked up these ships as well.

The ship is very manoeuverable in open space, with the drives being mounted in the three pods that are the distinctive feature of the design. However, they are not able to operate in atmosphere and may encounter difficulties in extreme gravity wells. Many spacefarers find these ships quite threatening, as you cannot tell what sort of weapons they have mounted (if any) until they power up and open fire.

In this product there is quite a bit of background about this vessel, nice external views from several angles and deck plans, also a full stat block and example captain and crewman stats.

A useful addition, be it something seen in the space lanes or a vessel your party may wish to use themselves - crew accommodation appears limited to four people, so larger parties may find it a bit cramped, however.

Battlemap : Airship Port
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 10/21/2013 11:24:05
There are several good airship plan products available, so it is rather nice to have somewhere to moor them!

This product, drawn in Hollnbuchner's distinctive crisp style, depicts a temporary landing field suitable for a military operation. There is a central mooring mast with space for three airships, a hanger in which work can be done on one and a few tents to accommodate pilots and groundcrew, all within a fence.

At first glance, you might think this is World War 1 vintage... however right now in a post-apocalypse game run using Pinnacle Entertainment's Deadlands: Hell on Earth ruleset, my character is on an airship, poised to defend it from a marauding aircraft, and I'm sure he'll be glad of somewhere to land it once the action is over! I'm sure plenty of other GMs will find a use for this too.

Another useful and unusual battlemap to add to the array available.

Battlemap : Scriptorium
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 09/23/2013 11:30:41
Most scriptoria are in monastery cloisters or at least an above-ground library, to get good natural light. But should for any reason (security, perhaps) you want to have one in a dungeon, here's a good floorplan to use when visiting adventurers probably are not here to borrow a book or two!

It's a simple rectangular room with double doors at each end. However it is made a bit more complex - as the scene for a brawl or chase - by the racks and bookshelves within. There are also two tables, beside which the only light sources are located, at which scribes or librarians can work.

Perhaps this is some reclusive wizard's library, or secure storage for a faith's most holy and valuable texts.

Whatever you decide it is, it makes a good and atmospheric setting for the adventurers to come poking around.
