Codex Martialis: Core Rules (2024 Edition)

This is a fantastic work! Innovative combat system with so much crunch and nitty-gritty details I wouldn't know where to begin. Highly recommended as a rules supplement and as a weapons & armor reference.

I noticed the author's old site is down (codexmartialis.com). Done anyone know how the contact the author/publisher? Would love to see the old forums & discussion, rules ideas.

The website has been temporarily moved (though it's kind of invisible to Google) as our old webhost died. We are going to have a new site up in the near future but the old stuff is archived here and we still monitor it and use it as kind of a blog for ongoing research. There is a lot of new stuff in the works so stay tuned! http://www.codex.masterplanfoundation.com/

This is a fun little one-shot with some clever action & puzzles and decent atmospherics. This can be run "as is" without much difficulty. The writing is clear and the ideas straightforward, even if potentially tricky in execution (mainly for the players). I will most likely keep this in my pocket for an unexpected sidetrek - you know, the kind of adventure that your players stumble upon when they wander through a coastal village. One suggestion though: I would probably dial it down to a lower level (7-9th?). For one thing, the adventure itself feels like more of a low or mid-level romp. Likewise, there are not really any high-level dangers to worry about nor is there a need for the players to possess high-level capabilities (e.g. no sizable dragons or super spellcasters to fight). Lower level would also remove the need to nerf some high-level spells, the way that certain dungeons annoyingly prohibit scrying, teleportation, etc.

Thank you for your kind review and your input. We were of split minds on the recommended level as well - we are currently considering writing a page about adapting the adventure for a lower level. We decided to run with the higher level recommendation for two reasons: the adventure requires experienced players who have known each other for a while and having to fight your PC with all those really high-level spells feels both more intimidating and rewarding (if you succeed). However, it is absolutely true that some of the higher level spells destroy some of the threats the adventure poses.

Temple of the Opal Goddess

This is a really nice dungeoncrawl (a term I use fondly) with several interesting twists. Basically 36 well-detailed areas/rooms and a battleplan for the enemy. I wish more authors included such details and descriptions of environments, foes, timing, etc. Maybe a DM won't use all of it, maybe your players will skip right to the end, but players are capricious and it's a lot easier to cut material than invent it on the fly. Well done.

The Terror of Tumbledown - Game Pack

I was looking for an interesting adventure about a ruined manor or keep to use with Dwarven Forge sets. And I found it. This adventure has a straightforward location that is filled with fun details and detours. The 0One maps are terrific, containing all the bits of furniture, monster lairs, even piles of leaves that you would expect to find. The plot is just as twisted, especially if you take advantage of the alternate synopsis. The writing is descriptive and succinct; no mere restatements of "an empty 20x20 room with corridors leading off to east and west," nor paragraphs of florid prose cluttering things up. There are also just the right bits of weirdness (silliness even) to keep things lively at the game table, such as the "colander girl" contrsuct. A good package of maps and adventure at a reasonable price.
