Sure, this is only a reprint of a section if the Core Book, but if you're only interested in being a Player (and not a GM) or if you are a GM and not interested in having to constantly pass your Core Book around then this is a requisite to own. It contains everything you need to get started as a Player.

While the content in the book is really just a "copy" of the core book chapters for players it's really handy to have at the table. I can now pass the core book around and the players guide. I purchased the PDF and then just printed it for my table use. Definitely not as pretty as their version but the text is readable and it serves it's purpose. It contains the information that the players need without the bulk of the rest of the core book. If I had one complaint is maybe there should have been some discount for those of us that also purchased the core book, it's not that expensive as it is but it is designed more for the players than the GM directly. My players couldn't be bothered with buying something like this unfortunately but I don't mind spending a few $$$ if it's going to make my life easier.

Simpler rules and easy setup. This is what tabletop RPGs need nowadays. There is very little product to help introduce.

For the most part the Player's Guide is just selected excerpts taken directly from the Core book, so there really isn't anything new if you've already picked up the Numenera rulebook.

What you do get however is a well-selected cross-section of the information that players need to give them a basic understanding of the rules, the setting, and the characters they are creating, all interspersed with a great selection of the artwork.

I'm much happier giving new, and even experienced, players this book with only 64 pages of specifically selected content, over letting them try to figure out what is useful and what is not from the Core book which weighs in at over 400 pages.

The only things I really feel could have made this book more useful are the addition of sidebar annotations & hyperlinks as in the Core book, and to transplant the character creation walkthrough from the Core book to the end of this book as it would feel much more "at home" here.

Stunning artwork. Love the carefully chosen classes and inventive progression scheme. His world seems vast and brings back happy memories of Vance's Dying Earth. This will be a challenging rpg -- simple on the surface, but as deep as your imagination can go.

A great companion product for players, but for the hardcover price. This book summarizes all the character tiers, decriptors, types, and focuses and provides setting detail for the table.

I recommend the PDF, but having a hardcover copy at the table has all upside for your players that want a tactile reference.
