Priceless
Publisher: Rogue Publishing
by CASSANDRE L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/15/2005 00:00:00

The story behind Priceless might provide enough material for a four-hour LARP, but that's where it ends. Be advised that this would need some plumping to produce a table-top adventure of reasonable depth, and one would probably need to braid in a few subplots to support the superficial horror of the overall concept.

LIKED: It's likely a fine afternoon's entertainment for the theater-LARPing set.

DISLIKED: Because it was written with LARP in mind, it lacks the depth I like in gritty horror and the gore I like in survival horror. It feels like an abstraction, something that would need considerable development to create a moving story.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Disappointed
100 Horror Adventure Seeds
Publisher: Postmortem Studios
by CASSANDRE L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/15/2005 00:00:00

James Desborough, as promised, lists 100 story seeds, each occupying one page and accompanied by optional twists and suggestions of epilogues. Many of the story ideas seem familiar, touching on the plot of a story or movie before they diverge to something more original.

LIKED: Not only does the book offer useful condensations of adventures, but it leads the reader to find inspiration in other media.

DISLIKED: Can't complain. I can only wish Desborough comes up with more.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Autopsy Issue 1
Publisher: Postmortem Studios
by CASSANDRE L. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/15/2005 00:00:00

James Desborough's style alone makes a product worth reading, so I don't regret having bought this issue. However, be aware that it's primarily a series of essays on sex, romance, sexual deviation (for lack of a better term), and the difference between the genders--as they pertain to gaming. They're interesting topics if you like the theory behind the game, but perhaps not so useful if you're looking for crunch.

LIKED: I enjoyed Desborough's summation of the psychological difference between males and females.

DISLIKED: I would have liked more in the way of story seeds. The concepts were interesting, but I'm not sure the magazine offered anything to alter my style of play.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
