This will become part of our campaign in The Strange. Upon the initial read-through, I wish I was a player in this recursion! The details are what makes this so amazing. From the "what X knows about Y" in the town description to the period weapon charts (and penny slots), this is a complete product.

DnD 5th Ed Beginning Adventure Pack for 1st - 2nd Level PCs

I will be running a party of 4 intrepid heroes through "Secrets in the Dark" this evening. I am likewise setting the piece in the Dimgaard campaign world. I am very intrigued by the notion of low-wealth/low-magic and LOVE the idea of the Inquisition. This campaign is clearly not for everyone. But for a seasoned group of veteran role-players, this should prove a welcome diversion from the standard "loot & scoot" adventures that permeate the market. In fact, we will be tackling this as a band of mercenaries using ideas from Todd Crapper's Mercenary Campaign writeup in the old 4E Combat Advantage E-Zine. But back to the adventure! Secrets in the Dark is precisely the sort of thing I like: a single session's worth of encounters with enough challenge to force the party to think outside the box. Honestly, we have never used the Exhaustion rules and this is a great opportunity to do so! The only reason this lost a star was that it is very minimalistic, which may turn away some folks. The mapping is very much open to interpretation. Likewise, the encounters look TOUGH for a first level party.

0one's Black & White: Medusa Hideout
Publisher: 0one Games

We ran through this yesterday with a party of 5 9th level PCs and the 4E ruleset. I modified area three to become a slick, wet stone arch over a deep gorge. There was a caustic geyser beneath the arch and it was both challenging and difficult terrain. That was a meat grinder! The party fighter took two steps, fell prone and was blasted by the geyser. Several failed saves later and he'd taken 42 points of damage! Yssah and her golem (I downgraded the standard stone golem from 17th to 10th level) were incredible foes. By the time the dust cleared, one PC was petrified, one was unconscious and had missed two death saving throws and everyone else was bloodied.

All told, it went over brilliantly! Everyone liked the use of the maps, commenting that they added a great deal of flavor to the game, much more so than my usual scribblings on the battlemat.

For the price, it can't be beat!
