Though Zombie Rally has a bit to go before it creeps to the finish, its flavor and quick play rules make it a fun outing even if it does not last as long as you would like.
Zombie Rally is the first faray into board game PDFs for Snarling Badger Games. For those not familiar with how they work, you print out the PDFs onto cardstock paper, cut and play. Zombie Rally?s card sets are well laid out. There are 8 PDFs in the document which include one instructions sheet, seven PDFs of the fronts of the cards and one PDF for the backs of the cards. Two to six players can play the game. The artwork is quirky horror humor.
The gameplay is fast, almost too quick. The goal of the game is to have your zombie beat your opponents to the finish line. You do this by fighting and trudging your way through your opponents. Special cards allow you to attack your opponents limbs to slow them down. However, once you play the game a couple of times the strategy becomes easy and it boils down to who draws the most powerful cards first. The game could have used from three or four more types of cards to add a bit more challenge.
For the Gamer
This is not the type of game you build an evening around, but more or less the kind you can play while waiting on the lingering player before the late player arrives for your campaign. If you are a fan of horror games, this will be a light addition to your collection. The zombie flavor is rich through out with cards that allow you to rip off opponents limbs, eat their brains and lob their skulls. Its more of Return of the Living Dead horror as opposed to Night of the Living Dead horror.
The Iron Word
Zombie Rally is a campy zombie racing game that you?ll enjoy a few times before the strategies become obvious. This is a good family game if you have younger children and zombie movies are enjoyed by the whole family. However, older players will wear thin of it soon. Hopefully an expansion for it will provide a bit more depth to the game. For two bucks though, its worth trying and using as filler between lengthy DM box text. .
