I've been a fan of V&V sine 1983, and in all that time it has been my Gold Standard for Super Hero RPG's, the one I used to measure all other's against; and for the most part found those other games wanting in comparison to Villians & Vigilantes. I never thought I'd see a 3rd Edition of those rules, but it's here, and make no mistake it is a worthy succcesor. This game is Now My New Gold Standard!!

The game is okay, but really I think I actually like the previous version better. The way this game is structured you might as well pick up a copy of Champions. This version feels nothing like the original. I would have made different changes than they did. I would have taken the original and fleshed out the powers more thoroughly, changed the to hit table to damage resistance and maybe a few other tweaks. They got rid of the initiative system which was an awesome part of the original. The other thing that turned me off was the character generation section dealing with gender. You can be cisgender (I'm not sure why they had to bother with stuff like that). So I read through the game but I am not excited enough to play it which dissapoints me because V&V was one of my favorites and I was really looking forward to this.

I think if I ever play V&V again it will be a heavily house ruled version of 2.0 (basically replace the to hit table with a damage reduction matrix). If I had no exposure to the original then I would view this version slightly differently. Although I would not be overly excited I would not be as dissapointed. Again it appears to be a playable game and not a bad designed but just does not feel like V&V.
