CCCTHENT01-03 The Dreaming Relic
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

As a horror and Lovecraft fan, one of my favorite aspects of DND is this notion of unknown entities and dead gods what are lost in the far reaching mythos of the game. Stories like Those That Came Before and The Dreaming Relic are therefore some of my favorites theme-wise.

The dreaming relic is a relatively quick mini-dungon in which the characters are locked in some ancient and mysterious prison-contraption, where they are at odds with an unknown entity. Without giving too much away, this module points to the vastness of dnd lore and can be a wonderful jumping off point for a home game revolving around Great Old Ones or the like.

While not too technical or challenging, this is a wonderful module for the lore alone (or potential for lore at the very least).

A strightforward and quick module. There is little roleplay, but well-balanced combat (some of which can be skipped if the players are clever about it), but the real draw to this module is the trilogy it sets up, THENT 2 and 3 are each fascinating in their own right.

My players played this while they were still in Chult leveling up, so for flavor I just set it in Chult, which is incredibly easy since the whole opening is simply "a hole opened in the grown and some people are missing".

It is an easy-to-run module that opens up further possibilities and will make for a good last-minute run for AL.

Did you enjoy running Death House during the CoS storyline? Then this module will probably be just your style.

Eerie victorian manor where everything is not quite right, complete with a creepy little girl, it has all the makings of a cliche horror movie. Good roleplaying opportunities, and if your players are anything like mine they will love solving the mystery.

The drawback for this particular module is simply in the tone, it will be perfectly suited to Barovia, but if your characters are used to the high-fantasy setting of Faerun, it may feel off or even goofy to them.

DDAL00-03 Those That Came Before

This module is simply incredible.

Fantastic lore, drawing on the story of Larloch and the fall of Netheril, the players actually interact with the complex lich Rhaugilath, and take on my ALL TIME favorite final boss, the mighty (and horrifying) Taemylyn'zakka!

Another wonderful installment of the Kyuss series (following off DDAL00-01), and fleshing out the iconic library of Candlekeep, this module has great potential for world-building and storytelling (if your players are unfamiliar of the history of Netheril and all that it lead to, this is a perfect opportunity to catch them up.

But my favorite thing about this module is how it ties into the higher-tier modules of season 7 (I will not spoil it further, but it is definitely going to blow your player's minds if you play this along with the tier 3 modules in season 7).

DDAL07-10 Fire, Ash, and Ruin (5e)

It's an interesting module, with great characters and story developments (and quite the final boss fight), but it feels out of place in Season 7.

Characters will want to explore this massive map, which may take them well over the 4-hour expected slot, which poses an issue when playing AL at a game night. Also, if your players are pretty in sync and effective they will make short work of almost all of the encounters.

It should also be noted that when I originally ran it, it was before the second version was released. I cannot speak to the newer version.

One of my all-time favorite Tier 1 adventures, Cloak and Shadows offers a new experience each time it is run. The web layout allows for multiple approaches to the climactic ending, and involves everything including sneaking, roleplaying, and combat.

Although it involves the Cult of the Howling Hatred, they are ansilary enough to not throw off the game if you decide to not run the rest of season 2.

Every AL DM should have this module ready as a go-to for a Tier 1 table.

Tortle Package (5e)
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast

The tortle package is simple, but enjoyable. It fleshes out Chult to a good extent, and allows further exploration (assuming your players don't feel too rushed by the Death Curse). It has a single dungeon, some flavor spots that build on the overarching lore, and some exploration options.

The main draw for most people will be the Tortle race, but I feel this is the weakest part of this package, it's fun flavor-wise, but is not a wholly useful race (just my opinion).

If your players have fallen in love with the setting of Chult and have some Tier 1 wiggle room left, take a look at this supplement.

DDAL07-01 A City on the Edge (5e)

DDAL07-01 is a great opening to the setting of Chult, it provides numerous level-appropriate adventures for both new characters and new players, running a gambit from roleplaying and combat opportunities to miscelanious activities that break away from a typical module.

Some players will enjoy different aspects (I know a few of mine weren't too thrilled by the dinosaur racing), but there is plenty in here for everyone to try out a number of different play styles to get a handle of their characters.

It also works as a good introduction to the ToA hardcover and fleshes out the city of Port Nyanzaru.
