Hey all!

First… lets break down what you get.

1 – Exeter-B-Main.PDF – Remember the Star Wars or Star Trek books that had the beautiful breakdowns and floor plans of your favorite space ships? Well the Exeter gives them a run for their money. The prose is well thought out and colorfully written however I can guarantee that you will skip over all of that so that you can look at the absolutely incredible artwork of this ship. Down the finest detail (they have a laundry room people… ) this ship is laid out in beautiful color. THIS alone makes the PDF worth 5 dollars. See my final comment though…

2 – Exeter-B-Pages.pdf – What if I told you that all of the incredible art work above was laid out in a map book that you could print, and put together on your table? That is what pages is. Pages is the ship (several versions actually) set up so that you can print her out and give her to your players. Amazing.

3 – Exeter-B-Uncut.zip – This is actually several files, JPG’s and PDFs but essentially these are POSTERS for the ship. Beautiful, full color floorplan POSTERS of the ship! Honestly, they could sell these separately and I would buy them.

My Final Comment – Where in the hell is the paperback? Or Hardback? Regardless of system, be it Starfinder, Traveler, Star Wars, Firefly... what have you, this is the book you want to have for your players. Ignore stats, ignore rules. Any rules system you have could easily be applied to this series of ships. And should be.

Because this will end up being their home.

Outstanding work and well worth 5 dollars, and 5 stars. When you get a print version lemme know. I’ll give that six stars.

Respect – Troy Daniels

Note – Pay attention sellers… this is how you do this. The text drew me in. I did not even look at the previews. I saw what they were putting out and then looked at the paltry price and said… Oh Hell.. for 5 bucks I will give this a try.

I can honestly say that this is the best five dollars I have spent on RPGNow in a very long time.

JBE'S Big Book of Everything [BUNDLE]

::pushes button...damnit... :: pushes button again....damnit.

I can't get the thing to do six stars no matter how hard I try. Oh well...

Well...

I just downloaded the bundle. Out of the 90+ files, 76 of them are PDF's. The others are mobi, epub, and hero lab extensions. Since I am a PDF guy, I am going to focus on those.

Out of the 76 PDF's 6 of them are printer friendly versions (nice!) of previous works. That leaves us with 70 PDFS. For 20 bucks. That's .29 cents a PDF.

It gets better. 1385 pages worth of content. All of them have a cover and at least one page of OGL, so subtract 140 pages. That is still 1245 pages of content. Actual, usable content.

Now, when you take into account that you are getting compendiums, races, adventures, monster manuals, and beautiful full-color maps...

This bundle is a no brainer. There were bundles like this last year that were no brainers. This is the first no-brainer of the season. If you have not already put your hands on this beast, then you need to. Well worth the average of THIRTY CENTS a book. Well done JBE!

The Gift of Graz'zt

Hello there!

Tony presents a nice product here. It is short, covering only two magical items, but these are no ordinary magical items. Lets take a look!

The Gift of Graz'zt - Nice piece of work here. A device that has some cons, but certainly has a serious pro to it. You can summon demons that will actually do what you want without haggling. Note that you have to be a BFF with ol' Graz'zt, but hey... there have to be some upsides to that.. right?

Greater Gift of Graz'zt - A serious upgrade to the Gift (above) in that the critters that can be summoned are much more powerful. I guess that means you are just more in debt to the guy who gave it to you... right?

Overall these two items are pretty well balanced for a medium or higher level campaign. I think that both of them could do with a use per day limit (currently there is none) and they both should be legendary items (in my opinon).

Layout is top notch. There are no typo's, no graphical glitches. Grammar is good and it is obvious that Tony knows his rules as this is written as though it came out of the DMG and not a notebook scribbled between classes. Well done dude!

Okay Tony... you got me. Now when is the adventure coming out? :-)

Astonishing Races: Grippli

http://malwing.blogspot.com/2015/12/review-astonishing-races-grippli.html

We've gotten a 5 star review from Malwing! Please visit his site to see other great reviews! Below is what he wrote about Astonishing Races: Grippli! Thanks Malwing and keep checking out our other Astonishing Races!

///// Review from Malwing below

When I first bought Paizo's Advanced Race Guide my wife immediately cooed at the sight of the art for gripplis. And who can blame her? The little squirts are adorable frog-men that you just want a plushie of and have the cutest name. Unfortunately as a small 6 race point creature and not much else to them, they are completely unappealing to play. Plus they have pretty much zero flavor text making them bland to boot. Well today I look at Fat Goblin Game's Astonishing Races: Grippli. I'm not sure what to expect, as I have only really seen four products from FGG, with things either being genius or terrible with nothing in between and I have yet to see how they handle underrepresented races.

The start is very promising with a much more lengthy description of the race. Seriously, there's five pages of fluff before you get to the racial traits. And the lore is very lovely detailing them as very sociable although as a result of crippling fear of loneliness. Adding to their general cuteness it makes you want to pick up and huggle the first little kermit you see.

When we get to the actual crunch we get a reiteration of grippli racial traits but also a sidebar suggesting to choose two extra Alternate Racial Traits to make them more playable which makes me happy. Interestingly the alternate racial traits come with their race point costs so that you can bring them up by the appropriate number. Like a lot of people I feel like the race creation costs are somewhat out of balance and I would never let anyone make a race from scratch due to this, so this is definitely a dangerous precedence but for the grippli alone it doesn't come off terrible with the racial traits being fairly mundane. Here I noticed a few typos (Like Vermin Hunter not making the word 'Attack' plural) but none that cause any confusion or will be noticed at first glance. Of course there are Racial Subtypes that describe types of grippli you can make using the alternate racial traits.

Grippli favored class bonuses are greatly increased in number and come with a surprise. Instead of that boring list of what the favored class bonus does there's some flavor text added. The favored class bonuses are exciting without them, and believe me they are pretty exciting, but its nice to get some flair with them. They also get an alchemist archetype, (not as exciting as the racial discoveries that come with it and boy are those a blast. One of them literally.) a Cavalier order, (Needs some Clarification to be useful.) and a Ranger Archetype, (not badly designed but nothing I would particularly take.). There are also new grippli mundane items and a monstrous mount in the form of a giant dragonfly, and new feats and traits. Most of the feats and traits are pretty mundane but some of them will make you want to roll up a grippli. The magic items, not so much although they are wonderfully written and are cute items and spells that draw out flavor. I can see these being handy for just encountering them.

The document ends with a table of random features. They have no mechanical purpose but again it's cute.

So the name of the game with this product is FLAVOR. I wanted more flavor but at some points this is way more wordy than it needs to be. This can definitely be a good thing because grippli in the base game have almost no flavor but this does mean that it's not a crunch masterpiece. It favors making grippli more adequate and worthwhile to play than loading it up with a lot of options. This isn't to say that there aren't useable options here, and really only one bit had me a bit confused as to how it worked, I'm just not jumping out of my seat to play a grippli over the crunch. I will be jumping out of my seat to play a grippli over the fluff though, which is really appealing here. As it stands the Crunch is valuable but not exciting and the fluff goes above and beyond.

As a PDF the book is ridiculously easy to navigate and is pretty and easy to read.

If you're going to play with grippli you're definitely going to want this if you want them to be playable or interesting. I rate it 5 out of 5 for bringing grippli up to a level of interest in playability that's worthwhile with very few hiccups along the way. Easily a Player Companion quality race book.

Letters from the Flaming Crab: Winged Cavalry
Publisher: Flaming Crab Games
by Troy D. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/04/2015 13:31:04

Hello all! Flying mounts have always been a favorite of mine regardless of gaming system so when I had the chance to review Letters from the Flaming Crab, Winged Cavalry I could not pass up the opportunity.

Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) – If you like any type of flying mounts, or flying items for that matter and especially if you have a Cavalier, then this is something you probably should pick up.

Construction: 13 pages with a cover, Contents and Writers, and 2 pages of OGL at the end give us nine total pages of content. Let’s take a look shall we?

First off, apparently Letters from the Flaming Crab (LftFC) is a monthly feature from Flaming Crab Games. Each month they touch on a new subject all from the view point of a vagabond sky-ship thrown into the planar void due to an experiment by two people we all know well. A Mister Einstein and Sir Tesla. LftFC follows an alternate history that quite honestly fascinates me. I am looking forward to getting to know these people right from the start as I read the letter the captain of the ship writes to “The Honorable Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Lord-President of the United Commonwealths of America.”

All of that, and we are only through the first page of the content. Intrigued we move on.

Ultimately, this book contains an intriguing premise, a new alternate class of cavalier, the Wind Warden, 5 Knightly Orders, and a breakdown of aerial mounted combat for the newly initiated knights.

The Wind Warden – Evocative text starts out the description of this interesting addition to the classes of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Basically what we have here is the flying cavalier, with all of the bells and whistles that you would expect to come with such a class. They are the undisputed masters of the skies and have special advantages when flying and using their unique mounts in aerial combat.

Combat Mounts – There is a list of mounts that are suggested for the Wind Warden, and I was surprised (and pleased) to see not only regular flying beasts such as the Pegasus, but dinosaurs and even the option for a magic carpet as a possible “mount”. There were interesting choices here but some of the names I did not recognize and there were no references as to where to find them. I LIKED the choices, don’t get me wrong, but for the odd ones I think that a pointer in the direction of the reference would have been nice.

There are lots of neat abilities that come with being a higher level Wind Warder including Soft Landing, Air Superiority, and of course the Wind Warden Charge. It was also nice to see the seldom used Teamwork feats being incorporated into a class.

The Orders – Honestly here is where the book starts to really shine. The Wind Warden was cool unto itself, but as we all know a cavalier has to belong to an order, and we have plenty to choose from.

The unique thing about each of the orders is that each one is based upon a different type of flying beast and take on a bit of the mystery and persona of the creature in doing so.

A good example is the Order of the Feather, devoted to the amazing Pegasus. Goodly knights charging across the skies on their winged steeds as staunch defenders against evil. Interesting abilities such as Eyes of the Pegasus and Smiting Challenge are just some of the powers that this Order is known for.

Each of the other orders fall into the same line, putting a beast and its attitude/reputation out as the driving force for the Order. Bounty Hunters riding fearsome pteranodon’s while pious knights flit about on flying carpets protecting holy sites and churches.

All in all, the five provided Orders each give a great theme, and lots of role playing potential should the Wind Warden choose them. Well done with all of them.

The Magic Carpet – I was pleasantly surprised to discover the existence of a construct in this book, the Magic Carpet. Reading through the description of this incredibly cool item I could not help but wonder whose twisted mind decided to throw basic sentience into a rug. Whoever it was I have to congratulate them on a well-made creature that is not overly powered, and have to ask them where I can get one for my ranger.

Aerial Mounted Combat – I searched and searched, thinking that this might have been a reprint of the rules, however I was mistaken. Although there are rules for flying combat, there are not clear ones for aerial mounted combat. Taking the flying combat rules and trying to apply the Ride feat (and all of the other mounted combat feats) to them would be crazy.

Unless of course, you had this book.

Printed on the last page is a brief, yet very detailed rules system for aerial mounted combat. Everything from barrel-rolls to loops in the sky is covered in this rules brief. Basic DCs are also provided so that checks can be made as combat occurs. This is amazingly well done for such a short brief and I applaud the author of this section for taking lots of other rules and making simple, easy to follow rules for a part of the game that does not get explored overmuch.

Conclusions:

+1 Buy it for the last page if you don’t want to buy it for anything else. A one page aerial mounted combat brief is worth it in my book.

+1 Buy it for the very neat variant to the cavalier class, the Wind Warden

+1 I liked the orders, and how the orders were based upon the attitudes and mysteries surrounding the beast. 5 knightly orders are a great addition to any campaign, especially ones that are as fleshed out as these are.

+1 The suggestion that the knightly orders could be used by other classes, mainly samurai or other cavaliers was inspired. Neat idea that I could see easily implemented.

-1 What I thought was missing was equipment or perhaps an interesting magical item designed around the concept of a flying cavalier. Special saddles (almost a requirement for a flying beast), amazing lances, or entangling weapons to snare wings and cause your opponent to plummet would have all been welcome additions to this.

Overall though, I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. The look of the book is excellent and the art is nicely done as well. Kudos to the staff that put this together. I am looking forward to seeing how the adventures of the Captain and her crew go next month when they talk about Cooking.

Take care, and good gaming. Troy Daniels 147822

Reviewers Caveat – I was given a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was not compensated in any way to do this review nor was I beaten, tortured, overfed with gummi bears or otherwise coerced. I did the review because the book is worth reviewing, for better or worse.
