A well-written book with a solid setting and many story hooks. Much of the mechanics are unfortunately lacking, though, but there's enough content in the book to make up for that. I have made an in depth video review that can be found here: https://youtu.be/56QKuLlCCPI

I like this book a lot - it offers a ton of cool character races and class specializations that really add a lot to the game. Still getting used to the setting itself but it is something that I find really interesting and unique. The new spells are pretty interesting although I haven't had a chance to see the high level ones in use yet. Tons of great art and maps throughout the book.

A very good looking book, but not quite in the same feeling as the third edition setting.

It's very much 'lighter', and the Redeemed races - once favorite enemies are now options for player characters. That's an odd choice, and I'm not terribly fond of it. I get it, more options, but not to my taste.

Rules-wise it seems pretty solid, a ton of information for domains, classes, equipment, spells and rituals. This is the real meat of the book and easily worth the price. Layout and design is all top notch, a ton of fantastic art, it's just a bit of a brighter more hopeful feel than the original and gritty setting. It seems like a lot of effort was made to have this appear like the D&D 5e Player's Handbook and not a unique product by itself.

Some parts are flat out wrong with the setting, the Drendali are not pale skinned elves, but the more traditional jet black-Drow elves. Not sure why the change was made.

I am happy to see Scarred Lands in 5th ed. This is a fantastic supplement for rules, but a lot of the theme and flavor just don't quite hit the mark. The third edition books are still relevant and are great companion pieces to the rules in this book. Make sure to pick up the Ghelspad Gazetteer or Campaign setting. Find them in print if you can, the big maps are fantastic.

I'm curious to see what Onyx Path will do going forward.

There was a noteable lack of inclusion of several races from the PHB (specifically Tieflings, Dragonborn, Gnomes, Half-Elves, & Half-Orcs) but they added 6 new options, plus new subraces. All the races got a bump in ability (except the Humans for some reason) so if you're going to add back in any race, you'll want to give them a similar boost. There are new options for all the classes (except Ranger) and the re-inclusion of prestige classes that have high restrictions for "multiclassing" into, to the point where they would have been better as class options. There are new half/partial backgrounds where you take one social and one regional option to form your background. New feats, equipment, spells, magic items, etc are all available too. I haven't made a thorough enough read through all these to comment in detail, but there looks to be a lot of neat content. I will say there are some new Cantrips which are really nice, with the exception of Enumerate, which lets you know exactly how many there are of something. Kinda lame, IMHO. Flich and Instant Wardrobe are fun though and would make excellent additions to an Arcane Trickster's repertoire. Near the back there is a gazetteer, of course, and a whole chapter devoted orginizations, handily split up by Arcane, Criminal, Death, Devotional, Mercantile, Military, and Political categories. Wrapping up the book is a collection of titanspawn monsters, including many of my favorites from the old Creature Collections and notably has stat blocks for both Asaathi and Slitherin (snake & rat people that have now been given as PC racial options). It lacks an index at the back, but the very detailed Table of Contents at the beginning makes up for this.

While I do feel something was lacking to really hook me into the setting, over all it's a pretty good book. I'm not sure how new players to the Scarred Lands will appreciate this edition, but as a fan from the original release, I'm quite happy and excited to kick off a new campaign to explore Scarn.

A very pale relfection of the 3rd edtition Scarred Lands books. . Way too much attention on the later books which in my opnion steered away from the unique setting. For the Furries out there this book's got them. With not one, not two, not three but for humanoid animal races. I'm not a furrie. And while I understand that these races were added later on in supplements, they again ruin the feel of the main books. Unless I'm missing it, there is no Titan's Blood or Rites like the ones that create the floating castles or that can make you vampires. Elements that I loved in the Original. The color art is all wrong for the setting, draining the gloomy feel of the original. And while it has a good table of contents, for the love of god people put an index in it. Very disapointed in this overpriced pdf.
