This is a fantastic set of modular map tiles for use in any sci-fi setting. There's a wonderful variety of pieces, they're all wonderfully rendered, yet free of cluttering detail, and have a consistent high sci-fi aesthetic to the whole set.

4,8 / 5 rounded down (because I don't know what the proper math sollution to fractions is)

Tldr; It's awesome, with some minor considerations for the Virtual Table Top-mapper and Customize Everything-mapper.

My second Space line purchase - Industrial being the first - and it is clear from get-go that it will see a lot of mileage even if I primarily make maps for (and run) fantasy games.

The Obvious - I find myself looking at yet another bag of eye candy from Heroic Maps. There is a warmth to the texture in their later work which survives the transition from earthbound fantasy into space. A ton of templates (well, 73) spells enough permutations to last a d20 lifetimes.

The not-so-obvious - 0,2 off the final score, why? Well, firstly, I feel a bit spoiled with the non-grid options that come with other sets from Heroic Maps: in the virtual table top environment gridded maps are superfluous at best - or in conflict with the gaming platform's built-in grid at worst. That said, Heroic Maps grids aren't as invasive as...let's just say tactical maps in adventure modules by definition NEVER can be used as is :). Anyway, it shouldn't be too much of an issue with this particular set.

Secondly, the set is rigid. And by that I mean it isn't too friendly to the idea of going bananas with image editors (like Photoshop or GIMP) and work around the orginial template sizes and forms. This is entirely to do with the floor imagery which isn't as easy - or at least quick - to work with compared to other sets.

From a design point-of-view, however, I still hold it to be very well executed: it is a spaceship backdrop, and it is clean without being boringly clinically so. And it spurs one's imagination: and what, if not that, matters most.

Arm phasers!
