I just recently bought "The Book of the Dead" as i was looking for inspiration for undead creatures for my Homebrew campaing featuring a lot of this monsters and as I really enjoy reading through bestiaries page by page. The overall construction of the bestiary is really good. I very much enjoy the fact that the creatures have their battle tactics implemented into their statblocks. Also many monsters have some nice ways to get rid of them rollplay wise, great stuff to go around players murderhoboing everything and making them to gather info on the beasts. But sadly there is more than a couple mistakes in the text that I think were very easy to avoid with a proper review of the material. As an example i will use the template provided for a mummified creature. Firstly the mummiefied creature features an ability called regeneration tied to the number of hit die the creature has, and thats ok, but now comes the strange part. It might be me being stingy but why is there in the template for the mummified creature in the regeneration ability stated in the text : "The half-vampire regains hit points". We are talking about a mummy. Secondly in the example of the ogre mummy there is no regeneration in the statblock. I realise this is no big issue. There are at least a couple more of those silly mistakes. If the authors want more detailed info on the mistakes i found, contact me. Overall a solid 4/5

there are a lot of good monsters in this book, but a lot of the pictures don't line up with the monsters

I enjoyed this book a lot. It features an astonishing amount of new undead enemies, many of them quite creative.

A few enemies (about 2), however, are also found in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. I am unsure why there is this overlap, since they don't seem to have the same illustrations or stat blocks.

The rest of the more than 100 enemies are all good and useful. I will certainly be using them in my coming games. I am especially fond of the templates this book supplies, since they can be applied to most any monster, and really help flesh out a force of undead with more varied and surprising foes.

There are two reasons this supplement does not get a 5/5 review from me.

1) Although most monsters have illustrations, there are a bunch of them, where I don't think the illustration fits the description at all. 2) The book lacks well-rounded-ness. There are a few editing errors (including spelling, though that is not so bad), and the illustrations for monsters are in jarringly different styles.

All in all I really recommend this book. It is well worth the 10 dollars I paid for it, and I think you will have the same experience.
