Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game

Wearing the Cape: The Roleplaying Game This is an RPG based on the novel and stories in the *Wearing the Cape* series using the FATE Core game mechanics. What is great is that the author of those books, Marion G. Harmon, is the one behind it. It shows in that the background information, the little snippets, all match the stories and setting perfectly. And, it does not leave things out, referring to a specific novel or story, but instead includes everything. Which is great if you have never read any of the novels and you just want an awesome superhero RPG game. The art, layout, and writing are top notch that I have seen so far. I have only one complaint (not enough to knock a star off, you will notice) is that some blocks of text are the width of the page, which for me is hard to read. The PDF is linked and so far is easy to get around. Disclosure: I got this book (PDF) by backing the Kickstarter....

White Box Omnibus [Swords & Wizardry] The mini-campaign setting and adventures are a goldmine no matter what version of the worlds most popular fantasy roleplaying game or its offshoots your are into. I'm currently 13 sessions into a 5e campaign using this material, and have lots more to go. Excellent value for your gaming dollar.

DDEX1-05 The Courting of Fire (5e)

DDEX1-05 The Courting of Fire (5e) Really enjoyed the first combat of this adventure, but other encounters fall kind of flat. There are some interesting traps involved, but nothing that packs enough teeth to be a major detriment to the party. This adventure does have a good introduction to Podol's Plaza, the library, and some NPCs that it ay be helpful to develop for later adventurers. However, if you were to only choose one "find missing book/scroll" quest in the first season, my vote has to be for The Scroll Thief.

M.e.r.c. A good selection of villians, and plot hooks, that can be easily dropped into any game. Great art and characters.

DDEX1-04 Dues for the Dead (5e) So you want a dungeon crawl huh? This is the most dugeon-crawly one of the first season of organized play. Enjoyable setting, fun NPC tagalong characters and encounters, and throwbacks to early videogames/novels. There is a diving-off point early in the dungeon that can throw a DM through a loop if you aren't prepared for your group to go off script. Thake a look at that necropolis...

DDEX1-03 Shadows of the Moonsea (5e) LOVE THIS ONE Players frequently reminice to me about "That Scooby-Doo Mystery." There is some really fun investigation to be had. Really colorful NPCs to roleplay - the ferryman, the crones, everyone on the island is great. There is a great twist at the end, just when you think you've got it figured out. and a couple of very memorable combat scenes. Rewards may not be tier appropriate...

DDEX1-02 Secrets of Sokol Keep (5e)
by Donald P.
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast

DDEX1-02 Secrets of Sokol Keep (5e) For me this will always be the definitive Adventurer's League module. It was my first taste of 5e and so I am full of nostaligia when I think about it. I wouldn't hesitiate to run it as an introductory module for new players either. The first part of the adventure is roleplay intensive, and the second is a linear dungeon crawl, so there is a good balance for all types of players. Good introduction to Phlan and a good starting point for the rest of the ToD modules.

Masks: A New Generation

Publisher: Magpie Games
Date Added: 04/20/2017 11:01:08
Masks: A New Generation *Masks, A New Generation* is a Powered by Apocolypse game that really stands on its own. Below are certain aspects I really enjoyed. **Fluidity of Playbooks** Masks allows players to build their hero based off templates called playbooks. These playbooks are vague within set archetypes, allowing the creation of characters that can vary wildly in powers and backstory, but still fit within an identity that defines them. Whether you'd like to be the average Joe who's keeping up with powerhouses, or the strained teen trying to keep their normal life and heroic life seperate, you've got a great selection to choose from. **Character Failure = Leveling Up** There isn't really a way to "Power game" in Masks, or at least not one that doesn't seem fake. The only way to advance in your power, options, abilities is to fail. For each failure, you tally up until you get to five and then you grow as a character. There's no way around it. It's brilliant really. Imagine a teen superhero that al...

Tiny Frontiers

Tiny Frontiers I picked this game up on a whim, and haven't had the chance to run it yet, but certainly mean to, as it really appeals to me. OK, so first of all the layout is crisp and clear, and easy for me to read (even without my glasses on) which is increasingly important for me as an aging gamer. Character creation is a snap - you choose a race (which determines hit points and gives a couple of extras that usually give you an advantage (see below) in some sorts of tests, select three traits, select wepon proficiency and mastery, assign gear and credits, choose a profession and a drive, and you're good to go. The system itself is very straightforward - any test are rolled on 2d6, with a 5 or 6 rolled on any of the dice beig a success. Advantages add a die to the pool and disadvantages subtract one - veyr straightforward. If a test falls with the scope of your profession, you will get an advantage, and an appropriate Trait will usually give an advantage. The trait list is excellent, ...

DDEX1-01 Defiance in Phlan (5e)

DDEX1-01 Defiance in Phlan (5e) This was a great quick mod to throw together. I was planning on playing and hadn't read any mods recently and so I needed a quick adventure and I had this on my laptop. It was really easy to throw together and doesn't require a lot of prep work. If you run all 5 it was a nice variety of playing. Its nice to be able to control play time by the hour. I enjoyed it, it was a nice mix at times for combat and splashes of roll playing.

Trail of Cthulhu: Soldiers of Pen and Ink
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer]

Date Added: 04/20/2017 07:57:51
Trail of Cthulhu: Soldiers of Pen and Ink This mini-campaign is set to embroil the Investigators in the Spanish Civil War in 1936. The hook provided has them sent to Madrid as a documentary film crew, and this is supported by the pre-generated charaters provided, but you may have your own ideas about how to entice them over there. Like many idealists, they may even have gone to fight... fascism, supporters of a democratic republic and communists are involved in the conflict. The Horrible Truth reveals what is really going on, and then the Spine lays out the sequence of events which begin with one of the party's associates disappearing. There's even the chance to catch up with Ernest Hemingway as the search progresses. There's loads of supporting material here, from some wonderful pseudo-science to 'explain' how the Mythos is working in this instance to details of what a besieged Madrid is like (the fascists are trying to dislodge the republicans, the communists are bickering with the republicans whilst trying to keep the fa...

Castle Falkenstein: Firearms & Margarine: An Adventure Entertainment *Disclaimer:* I received a free copy of this product for the purpose of this review. All right, going into this product, I had absolutely no idea what it was about. I mean, seriously, just look at that name. It turns out that this is a 44-page, full-color murder mystery adventure for the Castle Falkenstein system. The adventure is divided into a prologue, three chapters, and an aftermath. For spoiler reasons, I obviously can't get into too many details on the plot, but simply knowing it's a murder mystery is probably enough to tell you whether or not your group is interested in playing it. The credited author, J Gray, has contributed to quite a few quality titles in the past, and that's always reassuring since mystery adventures tend to be very hit-or-miss. That said, I probably wouldn't run this as the first Castle Falkenstein adventure for a given group of players. That's not a knock against its quality, by the way - it's just that this is the sort of adventure that works much ...

Four Horsemen Present: Celestial Character Options

Four Horsemen Present: Celestial Character Options An Endzeitgeist.com review This pdf clocks in at 18 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page editorial, 1 page SRD, leaving us with 15 pages of content, so let's take a look! All, right, after a brief introduction we meet the Ishvara race. This race takes the concept of a heart and mind divided between selfless altruism and selfish ambition, making equilibrium difficult - you know the metaphysical concept. The ishvara embody this race - they perceive themselves as incarnations of imperfect souls and the moral turbulence makes them a prime candidate for self-realization, for the life of adventurous struggle, while also providing a deeply ingrained roleplaying angle for personal development, which is a big plus to me. The ishvara are native outsiders who get +2 to an attribute of their choice, darkvision, +2 to saves versus fear and despair effects and a 1/day option to reroll such a save on a natural 1. Additionally, they gain +2 to saves versus poison and mind-affecting effects and +1...
